Yet Another Apple Netbook Rumor

Published

on

If only the economy could be based on Apple rumors. DigiTimes is reporting this mornign that Wintek will be providing touch screen panels for an Apple Netbook that theoretically is going to ship in the third quarter of 2009. The Netbooks themselves will supposedly be manufactured by Quanta, who already make a number of Netbooks for a number of other companies. The timing on this has everyone all in a flutter because that’s the sweet spot for holiday shopping.

It all makes logical sense, but don’t start holding your breath or hoarding your cash just yet.

How does DigiTimes jump from this, “Wintek revealed that it is currently working with Apple to develop some new products, but it said it does not know what applications the new products are for,” to stating the touchscreens are for netbooks? Where’s the bridge between “I don’t know” and “it’s for netbooks”? Doesn’t mean they’re wrong, but there’s a pretty sizable gap there.

And this appears to be running off a previous Quanta rumor that pegged them as the manufacturer for Sony and Apple netbooks. Yeah, because when I think of “low-cost computers,” I think Sony and Apple.

I really don’t see Apple ever making a tablet, just because their OS isn’t designed for it like Vista and Win7. Sure, there’s Inkwell, but that’s really just a (not very good) add-on, whereas the features are obviously much more pervasive throughout Windows.
