St. Patrick’s Day iPhone Tablet Predictions Are Mostly Blarney

2007-05-22-leprechaun I’m going on record tonight and saying that Apple will not show us an Apple Tablet sitting at the end of the rainbow on St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow. Rumors continue to run rampant, mostly fueled today by this post in Computer World. I just don’t think a Tablet or a Netbook, the way we’ve come to think of them, is in the picture.

That said, Apple may indeed come out with some sort of communication/media device with a touch screen. But if you believe Kevin Rose, who knows what will happen other than the iPhone 3.0 software won’t have the ability to run background applications. So, if Apple does come out with something I’m guessing it will have to be a new device category because I can’t see some sort of Tablet/Netbook not having that functionality. So, what will it be? Will it be a bigger iPhone? Will it be like the TechCrunch Tablet? Will it just be the next generation of the iPhone? I think only the leprechauns in Cupertino know for sure.

That said, I wonder if the rumor sparked by these reports of Dell releasing the Adamo tomorrow are blarney or not? Their PR leprechauns would be a little foolish to try and compete with a big Apple announcement tomorrow.

If I’m wrong, just remember I’m Scottish.

Word on the street is Dell was holding NDA briefings on the Adamo last week and I wouldn’t be completely surprised if they were introducing it at the same time as Apple’s iPhone news.

I really don’t think Apple will be talking hardware tomorrow, but I hope I’m wrong. As we discussed in last week’s podcast, I’d love to see a jumbo iPod touch.

I don’t think we’ll see a cheap-ish netbook from Apple any time soon.

“Welcome to All Things Scottish… Our slogan is, “If it’s not Scottish, it’s CRAP!” :)

Anyway, Adamo is pretty much a sure thing, so whether Dell is just feeling gutsy or whatever, I expect tomorrow to be a bit fruit loopy.

As for the Apple news… I have a feeling it will be a software-only announcement, but I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of some hardware hints based on that software news.
