bluetoothlogoIt isn’t official yet, but phonescoope is reporting that the Bluetooth Special Interest Group will be unveiling the new 3.0 spec on April 21. Supposedly we’ll hear about what chip makers are going to suppor the new spec.

Bluetooth 3.0 is supposed to be capable of operating at WiFi speeds. After a device is paired up, if WiFi is connected any data transfer will follow the WiFi path. If no WiFi is available it will revert to Bluetooth. The new spec also includes what is being called Enhanced Power Control, which is supposed to save on battery life and also prevent disconnects.

Guess we’ll hear more soon.
