OneNote for iPhone In Development

I’ve been in correspondence with   TheMSTeam who let me know that they working on a OneNote application for the iPhone. They have been soliciting my feedback regarding prioritization of features for a version 1.0 release.

If you are interested in beta testing this application, then look for an invitation on TheMSTeam.com website in the next couple of days. We’ll post a note on GBM when the invitation page goes active, too.

What would you like to see in a OneNote application for the iPhone?

    I’d like to be able to such with onenote desktop app, cut and past fromt he iphone to the onenote app and write simple notes

    Omg, MS isn’t able to produce a well and stable working OneNote for Windows, even with the soon to be released new Office it lacks tons of features and I don’t want to know how many bugs still remain unresolved and they really think about coding a ON version for the iPhone?
    The idea is nice, but they should improve their main program, too.
    Features? Well, ink will be pretty useless on a capacitive touchscreen this small, so the iPhone version will be rather a viewer with normal text editing features.

    Do you know if they’re going to do handwriting recognition? (WritePad does handwriting recognition, but the app’s somewhat unstable.) For HWR, the user can use the entire screen to write a word so screen size isn’t as big an issue. Also, I know of at least two iPhone inking apps (i.e., no HWR, but you makes notes to yourself by writing with your finger on the screen). The idea of ON with inking support for the iPhone isn’t a bad one.

    However, it seems more likely they’re competing against EverNote (whose iPhone app, AFAIK, does not do inking or handwriting recognition).

    Automatic syncing with my Windows OneNote 2007, and the ability to do all the basic typing, editing, and tagging would be a huge big deal. Despite usability flaws, like the inability to define custom keyboard shortcuts like all other Office apps, my whole life seems to have gathered in the product.

    What would be nice, and I am not going to hold my breath or cry if it doesn’t make it, would be reasonably accurate voice recognition.

    I imagine that any release on the iPhone would require the OneNote14 and use the web features to sync. That would reduce the amount of platform specific coding and let you leverage a stronger PC platform for heavy lifting while keeping the handheld interface fairly lightweight.

    If you can ink on the iPhone (recognition not required), then let your office PC worry about recognition, search,etc. I’d be happy.

    Just give me the ability to refer back to existing notebooks and pages, while entering new items as ink and possibly support audio and video recording on the iPhone.

    The form factor would be similar to an old mini steno notepad for jotting quick notes with the iPhone.

    Sinking with my One Note 2007 and the ability to take short notes in ink. Don’t need hw recognition just a way to feed my notes from reading, thinking etc. to take the place of my trusty moleskin. PS I find ON 07 to be a sound, stable and very functional app.

    I’m really looking forward to this! I use OneNote a huge amount and would love to be able to read my notes on my iPhone.
    It just has to be able to sync without any trouble and organise my notes the same way as the OneNote desktop app.

    Features I would like -Syncing with desktop (so I can carry around with me notes from my desktop), adding new notes, tagging and searching please.

    great ! been living in onenote since 2002 and find it incredibly good. it is stable and utterly reliable. i just wish the interface would be more modern.

    iphone onenote needs to sync with a section, like the windows mobile version. most importantly, it has to sync *over the air*. adhoc wifi or internet (e.g. gmail exchange contacts). i cannot stress enough how important it is for fast syncing, otherwise i might as well just open up the windows version and take notes there. DO NOT go through the appallingly lethargic itunes. i don’t want to use 45 min everytime i sync.

    Ink is not exploited enough. I would not only like to see the cut and paste options currently known on onenote, but also the inking and ink recognition capabilities. To be able to jot down ink notes quickly. This is such a convenience to the current style of writing or jotting small notes (to do list, shopping list, medical recipe, jotting notes on a patient data or status) on a piece of paper or sticky note. The advantage is that recogntion can order the handwriting to readable text, making it easier for others to read it. I find touch typing irritating and wish for the freedom of writing in digital ink on a small touch screen. With touch typing you are always focused on the screen. With inking you can interact more naturally, making onenote on the new iPhone 3GS a proper and fun tool, and not that the tool determines your actions, making you feel yet again the slave of the machine. I believe that special pens are also available for capacative touch screens, so the possibilities and technologies are there!
