It isn’t quite a Friday afternoon news dump, but it’s close. Trying to keep the US Federal dogs at bay, Verizon announced that it was going to change up its exclusivity plans for the future. Basically the gist is that any phone carried as an exclusive initially will become available to other carriers after six months, but, (and this is an important but) only to smaller carriers that have less than 500,000 subscribers.
Verizon isn’t ending exclusivity completely, but this looks like a move that in the end won’t change the game that much. But I’m sure Verizon is hoping it will have some impact in what is sure to be a contentious time dealing with the Federal scrutiny that is heating up.
