Zune HD Finally Shows Its Stuff

By  |  4 Comments

zunehd_540x405The folks at CNet got to go hands on with the Zune HD we’ve been hearing about forever and they seem mightily impressed. They really like the 3.3 inch capacitive touch OLED screen and the overall design of the device. While it has that HD in the name, when you watch a video encoded at 720p the screen won’t support it, but instead plays it back in 480×272. You can see the full 720p image if you hook it up to a TV though.

They were also very impressed with the browser experience saying “Not since first using the iPhone have I been this impressed with a mobile web browser.”

So, it sounds like this new ZuneHD may make some noise when it officially debuts.

I have a current gen Zune and I think they are really the best MP3 player. I love the feel, I love the software, I love the UI. I never really liked the click wheel interface, as I always felt awkward moving my thumb in that fashion. I was really considering getting a touch, but the I hate the mirror finish backing so I started holding out for a Zune touch, since there were rumors at the time. Looks like that paid off!

I completely agree with Antimatter on this one. I love my Zune 120GB and the 3.1 software is great.

I can’t wait to get my hands on the Zune HD, but I’m also curious to see what happens with the new Zune software update (and I’m sure there will be one).

So I got to play with a Zune HD last night at the gdgt.com event. Unfortunately the Microsoft rep wouldn’t let me take any pics of the UI, but it is very slick. Media looks fantastic on it and it’s extremely well built.
Zune fans are going to be very happy campers when this comes out.

I am looking forward to it. if they don’t have the price too high, I will probably pick one up. I am a little worried about the interface though. I have been using an archos gmini 402 for 3 years now, and I really like it. I’ll just have to wait and see.
