Comcast is planning to launch trials of its TV Anywhere service in 30 to 60 days. It will be interesting to see how this goes. Essentially TV Anywhere allows Comcast subscribers to watch content they already subscribe to online. The venture is a partnership with Time Warner.
According to a report in this ZDNet article, the authentication details are presenting a challenge, and smoothing that out will obviously make adoption easier. Of course the real question is will Comcast hit up their current subscribers for the extra service.
Much to Comcast’s displeasure you can do this same sort of thing with a Slingbox and other services at the moment, and I’m sure Comcast is heading in this direction to try and control the time/place shifting market.
