Google Chrome OS Event Thursday

Published

on

googlechrome2-thumb.jpgIt looks like we’ll find out more info on Google’s Chrome OS tomorrow. Google is planning and event to unveil some info. At the moment it looks like reports that it would launch this week may have been premature, as indications are that the OS will launch next year. (Another 2010 milestone to add to the list?)

Whatever is announced or unveiled tomorrow it will be news. I’m looking forward to what Google has to say. How about you? What are your thoughts on this? What would a new OS have to include (or not include) for it to be worth your while beyond the geek interest factor? Let us know in comments.

While I don’t foresee Chrome OS having much impact on me (I don’t expect pen support, inking or hwr), I think it could really shake up the netbook and nettop markets by providing an OS that is actually ‘net-centric and give them some distinction other than being wimpy notebooks and desktops. UMPCs could also benefit, provided there’s good on-screen keyboard support. MIDs would probably be better off with Android. Won’t steal away users who need the full power of Windows, Mac OS, or the major flavors of Linux, but I suspect we are not as strong a majority as we think (and if we discount business use, we may not even be the majority).
