New GBM Forums on the Way

Posted by | 12/31/2009 | 6 Comments

As you may know, we’ve had some real challenges with the GBM Forums over the past several days. Rather than slap band-aids on the problems and hope they don’t arise again, we’ve decided to move to a new, more stable system. Matt Faulkner is working tirelessly to transition all of the forum users and content over to VBulletin. This new software will be easier for our administrators to manage and offer a better user interface for the community. Rest assured that all of the forum content will stay intact.

We hope to have the new forums online as soon as possible. I wish I could say they’d be up by tonight, but by Sunday would be much more realistic.

Xavier: Compliments on doing the right thing, rather than the convenient thing. I think that all of us forum users are grateful for your support of our favorite Mobility Computing site!

I’ve had a sneak peak, and I think you will all like the new look and feel.

VBulletin is a good choice – very popular and in wide use. It’s also very fast, at least on the forums that I frequent. I look forward to that. The current GBM forum response time has always been pretty anemic.

There’s a decent iPhone app for browsing VBulletin boards. Search for Tapatalk.
