Latest Apple Tablet Rumors: ARM Chip and iPhone on Steroids

Published

It wouldn’t be a day without a new Apple Tablet rumor. It wouldn’t be a hour without a new Apple Tablet rumor. The latest from Boy Genius Report says that the mythical device is running the iPhone kernal on an ARM processor and that the device is essentially an iPhone on steroids. I’m guessing Mark McGwire will be buying one, but probably denying it for awhile.

Anyway, the other breathless parts of this rumor are that the Tablet multi-touch gestures are “out of control” and I assume that is positive hyperbole and that the reason we haven’t seen an iPhone OS update is that there are two many Tablet references that Apple wanted to keep quiet.

…And did anyone see the stupid article in the current issue of NewsWeek? The columnist was playing up the expectation of an Apple tablet and how it would unquestionably be the best thing since sliced bread (“…I can hardly wait…”

Meanwhile, he didn’t mention a single word about Microsoft, Win7 or the fact that we’ve had tablets for years…!

And people wonder why the print media (and NewsWeek in particular) are dying… (sigh)

Didn’t read the article you’re referring to, but it’s not like the presence of XP Tablet Edition, integrated touch/tablet features since Vista and the presence of Tablets of all forms has made any impact on the consumer market. Yes, it’s been around, but has it mattered at all really?

All of a sudden Apple decides to run the viral hype machine before releasing it’s first tablet and the world is a run with them. Most of which don’t have any valid reason for existing in the first place as none of them have any idea what software/user experience benefits there are to the tablet form.

The point is Apple is going to make a tablet, but they’re also going to define it’s purpose in the public eye and they’re probably going to do it right (or well enough to drive sales and then release succeeding generations).
