Opera Mini Browser Aiming for iPhone, Begging the Question: Why?

mini-iphoneIt looks like in many aspects of the mobile space, picking fights is becoming de rigueur. Ahead of the Mobile World Congress, the folks behind the Opera browser are announcing that they’ve got a Opera mini client ready for the iPhone and are offering some sneak peaks to attendees at that event. Of course wide release, is all subject to Apple and its App Store whims. If history is any indicator, it probably won’t be allowed. So, this seems like a set up for a tussle to me.

I’m not an Opera user on any platform, so I’d love to hear thoughts on this from those who are.

Opera Turbo, Opera Link, Speed dial… I can think of plenty of reasons to use Opera Mini/Mobile over Safari.

I agree with Philip Seyfi. Even though I don’t expect opera to integrate the turbo feature into the iphone, the Opera Link would mostly for people like me that use this browser on a host of other devices. I would also be interested in the mouse(or in this case finger) gestures on the iphone.
