Thinix Touch UI for Windows

If you’re looking for a better Windows touchscreen experience you should check out Thinx Touch v6. According to Thinix, the software “allows users to transform their computer devices into Easy-to-Use, Finger-Driven Appliances.”

Earlier this week Brett Gilbertson wrote a great article about why Windows is just fine for touch. Thinix Touch v6 is an example of a piece of software that can make touch computing more than just fine.

I’m going to try installing Thinix Touch on my HP TouchSmart 600xt, which is mounted next to my bed. This is the sixth version of Thinix Touch, but this is the first I’ve heard of it by name. However, older versions are customized by PC manufacturers and pre-installed on devices. After looking at this, I assume that I’ve been using an HP-branded version of Thinix on my TouchSmart.     I have a Tabletkiosk Sahara running Win7 so decided to give it a try. The computer crashed after a while and booted up again into a black screen when logging in my session. Reboot in safe mode did not fix the problem. I had to go through a full system restore to the point prior installing Thinix, and how everything is fine again.

      What version of Windows 7 are you using?
      Requirements are as follows: .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2, Windows Installer 3.1+, Adobe Flash Player 9+

      There will be a newer version of Touch 6 coming out soon with bugfixes.

    It looks like a great touch UI. . . however, it does have to work easily and flawlessly. . . Maybe MS should just purchase Thinix and fully integrate it into windows. I could certainly go for that. . . especially with some of the battery life coming out with netbooks and the like. I’m sure we could see 10 hours on a win tablet.

    why is it that everyone thinks creating a giant program launcher makes windows touch friendly (that is all this is)? what needs to happen is something more involved. I loved the original origami application from MS. it had a mediaplayer that played everything with big buttons, a customized version of IE, and the app laucher. we need a touch enabled file browser also. these are things that would make such an interface more useful. Right now it reminds me of “Bob” where it is interesting but not enough to give it cycles.

    Look closely, I see enlarged red X, minimize and window buttons at the top of each window. I see wide scrollbars that are touch friendly. It pulls up a virtual keyboard automatically if you wish. I think there are a lot of nice features here.

    Installed it on my Acer 1825 ptz tablet (Windows 7 Home Premium) and didn’t get the bigger sliders or min,max,close buttons. Just acted as a program launcher.

    Am I missing something?
