More powerful, fully rugged Getac V200 is ready to rumble

Rugged computing specialist Getac announced their most powerful rugged convertible Tablet PC ever, the V200, which they claim is the most powerful in the world. Judging by the Intel Core i7-620LM 2.0GHz processor with Turbo Boost up to 2.8GHz, I’m inclined to agree.

In addition to its spotlight feature of being able to take a beating that will leave other tablets crying for their mommas (MIL-STD-810G and IP65 compliant; MIL-STD 461F optional), the V200 features a 12.1″ 1280 x 800 widescreen display that uses Getac’s exclusive 1200 NITs QuadraClear™ technology, making it bright enough to view under direct sunlight, a must-have feature for the field. The touchscreen offers resistive multi-touch allowing for use while wearing gloves; active pen digitizer is optional.

Another noteworthy option is their LifeSupport™ battery swapping system, which allows the battery to be swapped out while the PC is in standby mode (warm-swappable). It offers a generous window of about two minutes to swap the battery, which is enough time in most cases to allow for reactive battery swapping (waiting for the battery to run down first), as opposed to proactive (swapping before the battery runs down).

The new V200s will be available starting in October. The mobility enhancements in this model are quite impressive. No pricing yet but, as usual, this kind of toughness does not come cheap. (And who could put a price on the ability to recreate the iconic scene from Flashdance with a computer?)
