WIPTE Coming October 25-26 Featuring Tablet PC vs iPad Smackdown

The Workshop on the Impact of Pen-Based Technology in Education (WIPTE) will be holding its fall conference at Virginia Tech on October 25 and 26. This year it looks like it is taking on what many are thinking about when it comes to Tablets and Slates by holding a session on the Tablet PC vs the iPad, called the “Tablet PC vs iPad Education Smackdown” among other sessions. Here’s the official announcement.

WIPTE 2010 will be held October 25-26, 2010 at Virginia Tech.  The workshop is intended to identify and share best practices related to the use of Tablet PCs and pen-based computing in both K-12 and higher education. Each WIPTE full paper presentation includes an assessment component as an important part of the presentation. The WIPTE program also includes two keynote speakers (Ann McMullan, Executive Director of Educational Technology at Klein Independent School District and Dr. Tony Salvador, Senior Principal Engineer at Intel), poster presentations, hands-on sessions and vendor booths.  New to WIPTE in 2010 will be a “Tablet PC versus iPad Education Smackdown” debate-style session in which proponents of each platform describe the potential educational impact of these devices.

Additional information including the workshop schedule, travel information and links to an online registration form are available at www.wipte.org.  An early registration fee of $100 is in effect through September 30th. After that date the fee increases to $150.

WIPTE has been very active over the years in exploring and evangelizing the use of Tablet PCs in the educational sector. Check out more here.
