Looks Like Amazon is Prepping an Android App Store. Is a Tablet Also in the Works?

Posted by | 09/27/2010 | 2 Comments

TechCrunch is reporting that Amazon is prepping an Android App Store and from the looks of what they are posting it appears that they have their hands on some of the details on how developers can enter the marketplace. Even more curiouser, TechCrunch is reporting that the same source says Amazon may be readying a Tablet/Slate as well. Call this speculation for now, but it if you read over some of the developer guidelines on TechCrunch the logic could follow.

    Let’s hope not.

The combination of website and web browser still represents the high-water mark in terms of reaching the widest audience, enabling cross platform and multi-form factor access for the user, and providing the “write once, run anywhere” advantage that developers and development cycles absolutely love.

All of these proprietary devices and “apps” are getting a little crazy. Too bad popular vendors couldn’t/wouldn’t/can’t/won’t/don’t simply provide a full-featured, standards compliant web experience. Even worse, consumers bought/buy/hype it enthusiastically and are unaware of the consequences. Most “Apps” are bugs, not features.

I hope that the Amazon tablet only works with Amazon batteries (that I as the user won’t be able to replace) and can only connect through an Amazon port using an Amazon cable. Dumb.

LOL. TechCrunch “reports” somebody anonymous rumoring something. I’ll hold my breath waiting for sure…
