Apple to Favor iPad Production Over Verizon iPhone

RBC Capital Markets analyst Mike Abramsky says that Apple will likely decrease its Verizon CDMA iPhone production in favor of increasing its iPad production at the end of this calendar year. Abramsky says that Apple will likely decrease production of its rumored Verizon CDMA model from 30 million units to 10 million units.

The move to maintain and/or increase iPad production, if true, would mean that tablet demand is strong despite the increasing number of Android tablets and cheap e-reader tablets that are beginning to emerge. Also, despite the MacBook Air and ultraportable computing products potentially eating into tablet sales, iPad demand would remain healthy by Apple’s estimates if Abramsky’s predictions are true.

Analysts are predicting that between 40-48 million iPads would be sold in 2011.
