Sony Turns Sony Reader Into Android, iPhone Apps

Published

on

Sony is taking the route that Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Borders are taking by not only offering hardware for its e-book ecosystem in the form of the Sony Reader, but by also making digital reading available on other platforms. The company is saying that an app for its Sony Reader platform will be available for the iPhone and Android ecosystems in December so you can take your reading materials from the Sony Reader store with you on your smartphone. This will be handle for users who may not want to take their Sony Reader everywhere with them as a phone is more portable.

If you go the app route, you’ll lose out on the Sony Reader’s e-ink display in favor of mobility. Sony Reader will give Nook and Kindle stores some competition and it looks like Sony is hedging its bets on its e-book store rather than on the Reader hardware.

When it comes from Sony… you can bet it is one of the best. But how is it different from other readers? Competition increases for Kindle. Hope both can survive.
