Google Voice Now Available for iPad and iPod Touch

Google has pushed through an update of its Google Voice App for the iOS platform that now works with the iPad and the iPod Touch. No, you can’t make calls directly using those iOS devices but through what Google is calling Click2Call you can initiate a call and tell Google Voice which of your phones you want to use to make the call. Google Voice then rings that phone and the call is underway.

You can send and receive text messages using the new App that is now available in the App Store.

Google has also added some other updates to the App as below:

  • When you enable Push Notifications, we will automatically disable Text forwarding for you, so you won’t receive multiple notifications.
  • Want some quiet time? You can send all callers straight to voicemail by turning on Do not disturb in the Settings tab.
  • We made it easier for you to place calls from the address book by adding a dedicated Contacts button to the Dialer tab.
  • Sending text messages is now more streamlined since you don’t need to press the OK button anymore.

From what I’m seeing this doesn’t appear to be a universal App so I’m guessing you’ll use the iPhone App on the iPad.
