Staples Pulls Viewsonic G Tablet

Posted by | 12/18/2010 | 3 Comments

If you’re out there Christmas shopping and think that those lost cost Tablets you might see here and there might be worth some of your coin, take a deep breath before plunking down you cash. Sure you can say you get what you pay for, but it looks like Staples doesn’t want you paying for the Viewsonic G Tablet.

According to CrunchGear, Staples has pulled or recalled the G from its store shelves. We recently covered Hector Gomez’s in-store look at one of these Tablets (you can see it here) and at the time I said he was being kind. I’m guessing I’m not the only one thinking that.

Too bad that this appears to be happening, just know we’re looking at quite a few Tablets appearing in the next year, and I hate to sound like a Grinch, but the old caveat emptor should be your modus operandi.

I have had a G Tablet for about a week and I like it. However, it is completely useless out of the box. The TNT layer is buggy and dumbed down. However, a quick session of Clockword Mod and the Vegan Tab Rom and it is a great tab with only a few downsides.

I’m writing this reply on a g tablet. It’s stock, and works great. No the Google apps are not here, but this isn’t a phone that needs them either. Getjar and handigo have apps, and I got flash from droidpirate. This is a far far better tablet than people give it credit for.
