Missed that call: No LTE on Verizon iPhone 4 Sumocat01/11/2011 Well, whether or not it was (as previously implied by Verizon’s CEO) an important element in bringing the iPhone to Verizon is unknown, but it has been confirmed the iPhone 4 will not be an LTE device. Per Engadget’s Liveblog:Advertisement 11:22AM Q: Why didn’t you go the LTE route? Tim [Cook]: Two reasons — the first gen LTW chipsets force design changes we wouldn’t make. And Verizon customers told us they want the iPhone now. I can’t tell you the number of times we’ve been asked ‘when will it work on Verizon.’ Dan [Dee]: We have a tremendous 3G network — we want to be sure we can take advantage of that.Advertisement Despite that, they will still be offering mobile hotspot service via the iPhone 4 (as they do on their other 3G smartphones). And of course, no simultaneous voice and data, just like on any other CDMA device.Advertisement Can’t say Cook’s reasons are all that convincing. Not wanting to make a design change is more of an excuse, and I’m pretty sure people have been clamoring for the iPhone on Verizon since they introduced the device. Seems like a more diplomatic way of saying “we got lazy”. Regardless, that’s another one in the “miss” column of my predictions list.
