Research in Motion’s roadmap for its CDMA-based BlackBerry smartphones were leaked to CrackBerry, which shows a similar progression towards touch-based UIs, higher resolution displays, and improved specs that mirror the GSM-based leaks on the BlackBerry Dakota (Bold), BlackBerry Curve, and Torch 2.
In the leaked slide deck, we also glimpse of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, suggesting that there will be a CDMA carrier-edition of the RIM-made slate. So far, only Sprint has confirmed a PlayBook for its network, though the Now Network’s PlayBook will be a 4G WiMax device, not a 3G CDMA-based device. In the GSM space, AT&T is rumored to be offering a 3G HSPA PlayBook and a 4G LTE PlayBook in the future.
As far as the BlackBerry Storm franchise goes, an all-touch BlackBerry Monaco was leaked in the slide. The Monaco will be powered by a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm processor–it’s uncldear if this is a single-core or dual-core Snapdragon CPU. The device will sport a 3.7-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen–hopefully the SurePress click-screen mechanism is gone in favor of a more traditional touchscreen. Along with a 5-megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording, the device will have BlackBerry navigation keys just below the screen area along with the hallmarked optical trackpad, which initially debuted on BlackBerry devices as a trackball. The BlackBerry OS 6.1 device will support a digital compass, NFC, accelerometer, and a number of high-end sensors and radios.
The CDMA BlackBerry Bold will also be getting an update to mirror the GSM’s Dakota. The Montana, as the codename for the CDMA Bold, will be getting touch support to the classic Bold design. It looks like the Montana will utilize the older BlackBerry 9000 series design rather than the newer Bold aesthetics, which means it will be a larger device with a wider, more capacious keyboard, and as an update to the 9000 series, the Montana will have a stainless steel band that goes around the device. Powered by a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm CPU, the Montana will support both CDMA and GSM/HSPA radios, suggesting that the Montana will be a world phone.
Also on board the Montana, like the Monaco, is support for mobile hotspot tethering, NFC, and dual-band WiFi support utilizing both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. The device will have a 2.8-inch VGA landscape-oriented capacitive touchscreen.
The CDMA BlackBerry Sedona is the updated edition to the Curve, which will feature a HVGA capacitive touchscreen and a Qualcomm 800 MHz CPU.
In addition to the Curve, there will be a lower-end all-touch device that will differentiate itself from the Monaco. The Curve Touch will feature a lower resolution HVGA touchscreen and a slower 800 MHz processor than the higher-end Monaco, but will offer those who prefer a touchscreen experience an entry-level device.
