Will Samsung Galaxy S 2 Use a Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU?
With news that Samsung’s own dual-core processor–formerly called Orion and now named Exynos–will be clocked at 1.0 GHz per core, rumors of the Galaxy S 2 next-generation flagship Android smartphone with a 1.2 GHz speculated dual-core processor indicates that the device may not sport a processor built by Samsung.
The move would be surprising as the South Korean conglomerate tends to keep its parts in-house for use by its own divisions. If the 1.2 GHz mobile chipset specification of the upcoming Galaxy S 2 smartphone is true, then Samsung may in fact be using a dual-core Snadragon CPU made by Qualcomm–the same chip that’s on HP’s recently unveiled TouchPad tablet.
Other rival dual-core chipsets on the market right now are clocked at 1.0 GHz, including Texas Instruments’ dual-core 1.0 GHz CPU inside the Motorola Droid Bionic and the 1.0 GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 chips.
