Verizon Sells 1 Million iPhone 4 Units in First Month?

Published

on

Crowds didn’t gather at Apple stores like they did during the original rollout of the iPhone 4, but approximately a million have been sold since the device went on sale earlier this month. According to Verizon CEO Dan Mead, 60% of iPhone 4 sales were pre-orders.  The Street did a little math and came up with the million unit number. That’s a lot of iPhones by any measure and especially impressive considering the iPhone 4 had been on the market for over six months on AT&T’s network.

The robust pre-order sales explain why the launch events at Apple stores were very tame back on February 10.

So what happened to predictions that millions of iPhone users would jump ship the instant the iPhone was available on Verizon’s network? Most likely the realities of dollars and cents, mixed with the fact that the iPhone 5 is likely a few months away. It’s a heck of a lot easier to tell a researcher that you’re going to ditch AT&T in favor of Verizon than actually following through and paying an ETF on top of buying a new $199 or $299 iPhone 4.

Those hoping for an iPhone 5 on Verizon’s speedy 4G LTE network will likely have to wait for another year.

Not that impressive, considering Google Android device activations are now at 350,000 per DAY, or 10 million per month.
