Lenovo Planning a 23 Inch Tablet or Is That a Touch Enabled All-in-One?

Published

Matt Burns of CrunchGear is linking to a TechRader report that has Lenovo senior specialist William Cai is talking about a 23 inch touch screen device that he’s hoping will be released later this year. Call it a large Tablet, call it a touch enabled all-in-one, but the idea looks to be a moveable (read not mobile) screen that can go from room to room in the house.

Here’s the quote:

It’s obviously not for full mobility use, but it could be moved from room to room in the house and used with a full keyboard, or as a television.Or you could lay it on a table top and use it for family games.

We’re hoping that we can launch it later this year.

Cai goes on to say that they will have to solve battery life and weight issues, and like Burns, I’m guessing the whole big touch screen price thing as well.

I could really get into this as a family/house computer. I hope, with a screen that size, they put Windows on it instead of android.

    Finally !
I actually think this will be a very popular form factor going forward.
I have been making that comment and waiting for somebody to build one for over a year now.
I envision these things with docking cradles which are wall mountable (goodbye refrigerator note pad – hellow kitchen wall computer).
The wall mount might have a quick fold down keyboard.
It will obviously act as a charging dock and probably do some port replication.
The screen itself will have enough battery life to run full video for hours on end with wi-fi – just like its smaller screen cousins.
It will also have a fold out stand, a tv-tuner, I/R input with remote, support standard mobile I/O systems like blue-tooth, etc…
It might even have a nifty way to hold a keyboard mouse somehow for ease of portability – plus a remote for media and TV use.

So… basically a wall mount touchscreen on the kitchen (or anywhere you want it) wall that can act as a TV or skype box or quick google machine or whatever… which can be easily grabbed off the wall and set on the coffee table or kitchen table or patio table or night-stand or floor or where-ever for watching some TV over the air or youtube or hulu or writing a book review or skyping or playing interactive board games with players both local and online (monopoly will make a come back I’m sure!), etc, etc…
Lay it flat and use it like ‘surface’ for games or art.
Or use the kickstand in different positions for whatever…

    Brilliant !!
