BlackBerry PlayBook Still Coming to Sprint, Should Arrive June 5th

It looks like Sprint still intends on releasing the BlackBerry PlayBook and it appears that it intends on releasing it soon. According to remarks made by Sprint Market Director Gerald Evans – which have since been deleted – the PlayBook will arrive on Sprint in Wi-Fi form on June 5th.

Here is what he said:

The much anticipated BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet with Wi-Fi® connectivity and 16 GB of storage will go on sale in all Sprint direct ship sales channels, including Sprint Stores, Business Sales, www.sprint.com and Telesales (1-800-SPRINT1) on Sunday, June 5, for $499.99 (plus tax).

Originally, the PlayBook had a launch date back in May but Sprint decided to delay those plans for unknown reasons. This lead to some speculation that Sprint may have passed on RIM’s tablet which wouldn’t have been shocking considering sales are apparently plateauing and a BlackBerry PlayBook 2 with a 10-inch display has already been outed.

Evans’ comments though reaffirm Sprint’s commitment and we should be seeing a release go down this Sunday if all goes according to plan. That $500 price tag will be, as with all Wi-Fi only devices, without a contract.

In addition to leaking the release date, Evans also commented that the 4G WiMax version of the PlayBook should be out later this year.
