5 Awesome iPad Games for Kids This Summer
Every year I think about summer. All kids want to have fun during their summer vacations, right? So why not enhance it with some great iPad games! With the iPad 2’s new Apple Dual-core A5 providing horsepower, there are a ton of fantastic games that look great on the iPad.
Although the games and apps look good, you need to look at each one carefully before spending your time and money on them. These are some guidelines that I use to judge games:
- It must be fun.
- Is the gameplay and the control scheme well-suited to the iPad?
- Does the game work well on a larger screen, or is it a universal app that also works on an iPhone?
- Are you on a budget? Do you want free or paid apps?
- Does it have a good theme, scheme, idea, or user interface?
- If you’re going to play the game in the car, does the game work when you can’t get a cell phone signal, and when you are bouncing around in a car?
Here are five apps that I think are good for kids like me over the summer:
Plants vs. Zombies HD – $6.99
Plants vs. Zombies is definitely a great game. This game does not require wi-fi connectivity, so you can grab your iPad and play this game in the car or in an airplane. It has over 150k+ reviews that are 5 stars exactly. Plants vs. Zombies has also won more than 20 awards. If you want an addicting, long and downright fun campaign game that you can play during a minute to waste time, or if you want to use up your hour, than Plants vs. Zombies is the game for you. I give this game 5 out of 5 stars.
Angry Birds HD $4.99, Lite version available
Angry Birds is a never-ending pit of fun, with over 150 unique levels of “extreme awesomeness”. If you ask anyone with a knowledge of apps, they know about Angry Birds. With Angry Birds the levels don’t get redundant, unlike Fruit Ninja (where all you do is constantly slice fruit). That gets very boring. But with Angry Birds you get new versions like Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio. You also get new types of birds like the Speed and Boomerang bird. I give this game a 4 out of 5 stars.
Flight Control HD – $1.99
Flight Control HD is the perfect game for patience, control and strategy. This game isn’t like fruit ninja, where you act without thinking. Flight Control is more of a game for brains. After about 5 minutes in it gets harder. And harder. And harder. And harder. Although this game might not seem a lot of fun, there is multiplayer game center so you can test your yourself against other people, or you can simply invite a friend! I would definitely recommend it and I rate this 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Tap Tap Revenge 4 – Free (In App Purchases)
Music. Hip-hop. Rap. Pop. What game uses all that? Why don’t you try Tap Tap Revenge! Tap Tap Revenge not only lets you download and listen to music, but lets you play your own beat with it! Tap on the buttons when the notes come down. Challenge friends or people online to test your beat, finger and total awesomeness skills. Since this game brings out the music lover in me, I rate this app 5 out of 5 stars.
Madden NFL 2011 – $6.99
Almost everyone I know loves football. What better way to get your football fix this summer than with real NFL teams on your iPad? Madden 2011 not only offers single and multiplayer fun, but teaches you the plays, strategies and how to show up your friends. I think this game goes really into detail with realistic passing and even deflections. When the ball deflects off some one’s hand, it literally shows every detail of the hand and the football! This game is a little overpriced, but I rate it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
When it comes to summer, kids have a lot of time on their hands. The games listed above can provide kids like me with months of fun, turning boring times into fun times. If I’m waiting for my dad to get a haircut, or for my mom to try on an outfit, or my sister to come pick me up after swim team practice, these games are a great way to pass the time.
Some of these games, like Madden Football, might be more interesting for boys than for girls. Angry Birds, Tap Tap Revenge 4, and Plants vs. Zombies are going to be great entertainment for kids from maybe 5 years old all the way up to mom, dad, grandma and grandpa. These games, for around $30, can provide any kid with a whole summer of entertainment.
