Motorola Droid Bionic Gets Another Attractive Feature

Published

on

Tucked away in Netflix’s little support party this morning was the mention of a phone that some of you may have heard of. It’s called the Motorola Droid Bionic and it’s going to be heading to Verizon at some point in the near future. What does this mean? It means that the Droid Bionic just got another attractive feature that will likely make the heads of those trying to decide between the Droid Bionic or Galaxy S II explode.

Droid Bionic Red Eye

So why is this a big deal? It’s simple really. The Motorola Droid Bionic is a 4G LTE phone. Those of you that are planning to get the device on a grandfathered unlimited plan will then be able to run Netflix on an a huge display and get to take advantage of those LTE speeds.

There aren’t many apps out right now that can do that and the Droid Bionic will have one from the very beginning. Just ask HTC ThunderBolt owners how convenient that is. They had been waiting since March for Netflix to arrive. It finally did so today.

And let’s not forget that the Droid Bionic might have an OMAP4 processor on board which would mean that it would have the only processor currently certified for HD Netflix. Yeah, 1080p Netflix videos shortly after launch? Yeah, that would be nice.

So, add another confirmed feature to the list, a feature that just adds to the reasons why you should be waiting for the Droid Bionic, folks.

I am thinking the same thing! I get that they need to stop and fix things…which is a good thing…but stop toying with us and release it already.

It isn’t really Motorola or Verizon toying with us, it’s all these damn websites that start spreading rumors…..I’ve been waiting since January, thought it would be out in April and then July…..I’m frustrated too because I’ve been up for upgrade since January lol. But It’s the internet toying with us, not Moto or VZW.

Right there w/ you. Very frustrating. I live in Vail, Colorado so I wont even have LTE service for years. Is it worth it? I am worried that the IP5 will dominate all these phones. Apple is probably just sitting back and watching all this “talk” on these phones  with their finger on the big Red Button that will boggle everyone’s mind.

The more they wait, the more its going to disappoint.
      people are expecting SOO much.

It really doesn’t have anything incredible.
Its a 4G LTE phone with a dual core processor.

      Whatever.

You have a dual core OMAP, so your processor is also netflix HD certified. Its just that pesky 3G…

you have 35 days to get another phone, so if it comes out on the 4th of August you can trade it in and get it. It’s just a $35 restock fee… but that may be worth it.

Its only 14 days now, they changed it I thought

I’m so tired of waiting for this phone to come out.. its getting ridiculous.. if its not out early August.. I’m switching to AT&T or getting another phone.. this is too much..

    07/20/2011 at 6:49 pm

Wow what a great story.. Im sure everyone already saw that the droid bionic will be supported for netflix.  I guess your really starting to think of just anything possible to write on this site.. I hope they dont pay you much!

Getting really tired of clicking on all these headlines for “new” information on the Bionic and seeing the same crap I’ve known for weeks.  Are you that desperate for clicks that you would purposely write misleading headlines?

    • Droid23

      07/20/2011 at 6:57 pm

Hes just getting to desperate to put out stories.. So he just changes up the same stuff people already know over and over again, and just makes it sound new and exciting!   He’s been doing this quite a bit lately..  Write something new for a change Adam, c’mon now..

      • Adam Mills

        07/20/2011 at 7:18 pm

No desperation, just another feature that we didn’t know would be coming with the Droid Bionic until today. How would you have known that Netflix would be coming with this phone at launch when, first, we don’t know a single thing officially about the phone and two, the things that were mentioned in that Best Buy ad didn’t mention Netflix at launch?

For me, and probably for a lot of other people (like I say in the headline), this is an extremely attractive development and a feature that we, again, didn’t know would be coming yesterday.

Do your research before you troll me again.

          07/20/2011 at 8:55 pm

Hey Adam, I don’t mean to be rude or anything, but the other two guys have a point there (Droid23 & Matt). All the articles you post have just been reworded differently, but overall have the same meaning. Also, your information is kind of late too. I knew the Droid Bionic was getting Netflix since a week ago, and it was also confirmed yesterday.

So I believe your just putting reading articles from other sources, and only rewording them to make them sound more interesting.

        • Droid23

          07/20/2011 at 9:32 pm

Ok because I did my research, and there was just an article posted earlier today by non other than Adam Mills, it was the netflix one stating that the droid bionic was supported, so again the same information was just repeated. That was enough information for people, instead you have to make an entire article an hour later stating the same info, just more dramatic this time..   Another one was your article about the omap4 processors will support netflix, then you had multiple articles stating the bionic will have a TI Omap4 processor. So anyone who read anyone of these articles already new it was gonna support netflix by what you’ve said.  Everyday your writing sometime multiple articles about the Bionic, and you just said it yourself, its stuff you dont know!!

I too think this news is kinda old since everyone knew about it, but to be fair, all we heard and read previously is just “rumor”, isn’t it?

          07/21/2011 at 12:37 pm

how about doing some real reporting Adam and get us the actual specs and release date on the Bionic or is that too difficult for you. By the time you report on this helpful information everyone will have already known for several days. So yes your articles are the same old dribble over and over again. Everyday I look in my email to see if there is any “NEW” news on Motorola Bionic like everyone else who has been patiently waiting for this damn phone to be released and every couple of days your name pops up with something to be said except you never have any real news to report so its your own fault for getting trolled. All we are asking for is the actual specs and release date, just the facts please.

All hipe if you ask me.  Netflix has very few titles available that are in HD.  And most those are in 720p. Very few titles are 1080p.  Now give me a Hulu Plus client.  That would be awesome.

Don’t listen to the haters Adam. I’m buying this phone and I appriciate the updates.

    07/20/2011 at 9:24 pm

Since the latest update I am not happy with the Thunderbolt, I lost my Skype video chat, it will not work with the firmware update, the one that does work is voice only and lousy at that, battery life is worse, and all my sound settings changed. THe bonus, the hotspot quit being free and went up 10.00 in price

I gave up a couple days ago.  Got a Droid Charge.  Have Netflix TODAY, and 4g will be on tomorrow.  And have unlimited data. And a lot less stress over waiting for a f-ing phone that isn’t going to be a whole lot different than any other phone out there.

this phone will be out aug 4thhttps://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/07/05/motorola-droid-bionic-launching-august-4th-droid-3-on-july-14th/ they werent wrong on the droid 3 so I believe this to be accurate

      07/20/2011 at 11:44 pm

Yea but the droid 3 was irrelevant and nobody cares, the bionic will change the game for verizon, no commercials no announcement no, I’m think late august early september, and I won’t buy it if that turns out to be true. I’ve got a og droid and as a loyal customer I’m sick of the way verizon and motorola handle their releases..

So your mad that Verizon and Motorola are taking there time to bring you the best phone they can? So you would have wanted the earlier version that was having problems? I’m glad they aren’t rushing and making the Droid bionic the best they can!

          07/21/2011 at 1:02 am

Actually I am,I gurantee that it won’t be as good as its hyped to be, I was very eager to get the bionic back in april and may but now its kind of to late…with all these key phones coming out within the next month or two. I’m just saying that all this shit with contracts changing and there phone selection as of now really gets to me…just want a quality phone and I know the bionic will be good but will it be good enough? Battery life..bloatware..hardware…I mean look at what’s coming in the next months so absolutely amazing devices including the motorola dinara which should be released now nstead of some hefty motoblur having bionic

For me it’s down to which one comes out first! The iPhone 5 or the bionic! The first one out gets my money!

        07/21/2011 at 1:54 am

If that’s the case I’m not buying it and I’m sure a lot of others won’t either, ill just wait for the sg2 or the next big phone..

      • Ross Binkley

        07/22/2011 at 7:25 pm

Why would you even consider buying an iPhone right now? It probably won’t even have LTE. If you don’t get the Bionic, get the Samsung Galaxy S II. It will be out before iPhone 5 and, assuming it has an LTE radio (which it probably will,) it will be on par with, if not better than, the Bionic. Both Bionic and Galaxy S II will probably make iPhone 5 look out-of-date before it’s even released.

I may just got to Walmart and get the HTC Thunderbolt on August 4,,,then keep it til the LIEonic comes out late August, then trade the HTC in…just to spite this whole waiting ordeal.

      • Bizi

        07/22/2011 at 3:36 pm

        Does Walmart take trade ins?

  19. What's an ifone?

    07/21/2011 at 3:00 am

This device worth the wait. What’s the hurry? If you have a rooted, rom’d, DX currently, you have a phone that will flat out stomp any stock verizon phone out. I cannot believe there is no mention of the potential for an unlocked bootloader. Obviously not from the start. (wait til the apple crap drops)
If you just can’t wait…Go buy that Samsung dissapointment, If you want a pure powerhouse, that will be every dev’s wet dream, just wait

Doubt it, there next phone will be the one to get, dinara I think….the bionic is just a check before the checkmate. Asp. With hitachi’s new isp display.

For me, give me Bionic or give me Galaxy S II. Both look to pretty awesome phones (assuming Galaxy S II has LTE… if not, I’ll definitely get Bionic instead.)

Im like some of you guys. Im tired of hearing the same bs over and over. Give us so hard core facts and enough with the I got to write the same thing that everyone else is. Motorola will continue to dig their on hole if they don’t get their scrap in order. I do want the phone though :)
