HTC, LG, Samsung Prepping to Launch 42 Mbps 4G HSPA+ Smartphones on T-Mobile

Android smartphone manufacturers HTC, LG, and Samsung are preparing to launch devices that are capable of supporting T-Mobile USA’s faster 42 Mbps network later this year according to the latest report. The faster 42 Mbps network will be available in 152 markets and is double the theoretical speeds that are supported by today’s smartphone devices on T-Mobile’s network, which generally top out at 21 Mbps. The 42 Mbps speed capabilities were initially shown in January of this year at the Consumer Electronics Show.

T-Mobile had stated that after HSPA+, it would slowly deploy 4G LTE as its next generation network. However, the carrier has not made any concrete announcements on LTE. Verizon Wireless had deployed a massive 4G LTE launch late last year and AT&T will begin its LTE debut in the second half of this year. It’s unclear how the impending and planned AT&T acquisition of T-Mobile USA will affect the fourth largest carrier’s plans for LTE in the future.
