Motorola Droid Bionic Not Hitting Sam’s Club Until September?

Published

on

Update: The source is saying that this document actually refers to Sam’s Club and not Costco as was originally thought.

More evidence regarding the Motorola Droid Bionic’s launch date has surfaced today and unfortunately it’s not good. You may remember that we told you that there was a possibility that the Droid Bionic wouldn’t be launching in September, well, Android Central now has some physical evidence from Sam’s Club that seems to point to that as being possible. So what you see here is a document that clearly says that the Motorola Droid Bionic’s launch has been pushed to September. So, what does this mean exactly? Well, let’s read into it a little bit.

First, it could mean that the Droid Bionic isn’t launching anywhere until September. We find that to be highly unlikely, but it’s possible. It’s also that the phone might be launching late at Sam’s Club. Remember, August 4th has been the rumored launch date and a device that we think is the Droid Bionic is set to become unclassified at the FCC on August 7th.

So don’t get too distraught yet, retailers sometimes have different launch dates and it’s very possible that the Droid Bionic will launch first on Verizon and then expand out to other outlets later on in August and even in early September.

Still, this is the second time we’ve seen September pop up so don’t be shocked to see August 4th pass without a release. We’ve got our fingers crossed and are hoping that that isn’t the case. You should be doing the same.

i am starting to wonder if this phone is going to be a lemon…does it keep getting pushed because problems keep popping up?

I would hope that Motorola would have gotten it right after this long delay but who knows.

When was this document actually released? looking at the other dates and information i would have to say probably week 25 (19th-25th of June) witch makes this old information

I seem to recall that availability at Costco has historically been delayed for other Android devices that were readily available at Verizon

Walked into Best Buy on Friday and had to run the guntlet of Verizon people just inside the door hawking their LTE network and LTE phones. I said your current phones are junk, call me when you get the Bionic. They shouted, “See us in September”.

Which would fit with what I think is the most plausible explantation- Retailers won’t see this phone until September, but Verizon retail stores will still be looking at an early August release.  I don’t think we will see the FCC disclosure date pass with no phone.

If it does get pushed to September everywhere, I will be buying anything but a Motorola phone.  I’ve had quite enough with this.  First April, then July 4th, then August 4th- if all of these pass with no word then Motorola can shove it.

All they would have to do is post better updates than “coming this summer.”  I have no problem waiting if I’m at least being kept up to date on a tentative release date.  But being asked to hold out with no information is ridiculous.  Remember- we still don’t even know what this phone is.  It’s all just rumors.

I agree. How can Motorola expect consumers to just hold out on buying competitors’ phones when they REFUSE to reveal ANY official specs on the bionic?! That’s ridiculous! Motorola should at least give us some details of their “enhancements” to give us reason to wait.

I agree but don’t give Big Red a pass on this. It would be a very simple thing for them to make a statement to their customers and stem this rediculous tide of ongoing speculation. But then again, why should they? Their gain is a new iPhone, possibly a Galaxy S2 phone, and the Bionic. Plus they can keep pushing the Thunderbolt and others at us with increasing discounts.

Hell, it’s win – win – win – win for them. Why should they care? I’d go with the Photon if Sprint had 4G in my area – great phone and Sprint has been very forthcoming with information at it’s website. Big Red could learn a lesson from them.

    • Muzicman61

      07/24/2011 at 10:47 pm

From a previous leaked screen shot, it was stated as “linked to the Cosmo Touch”.  Which makes no sense since that phone came out in November of 2010.  I’m so sick of Verizon’s game I’m just about to switch carriers.  I almost think Verizon wants people to grow tired and buy a Thunderbolt or Droid Charge.  Or they are still worried that their LTE network can’t handle a million new Bionics getting activated.

        07/24/2011 at 10:52 pm

Thanks.  I have no idea at this point if we should be angry with Verizon or Motorola.  Motorola has more to lose by pissing people off because there are a ton of other phones we can buy.  Verizon knows they have the best network and can pretty much do what they want.

Motorola would be wise to issue some sort of update to casually put the blame on Verizon.  Something like “Bionic hardware upgrades complete.”   Then we would know it’s Verizon dragging their feet, not Moto.

It’s more than likely referring to the Cosmos II, which has already released.  If Sam’s is behind on that handset, then it makes sense that direct channels should see the Bionic become available before the National Accounts (excluding any of the big boys that they might have special deal with at launch time, i.e. BestBuy, etc.).

I have been waiting on this phone since January (like most of you, I’m sure).  Actually had my hands on the “original,” and it truly was awesome.  But I’m tired of this crap, too.  And I’m also sick of this supposed viral marketing that could or could not be going on right now.  Just tell us what to expect for once, Motorola!  Most nobody who is waiting on the Bionic is going to run out and buy a Droid 3 or X2 (neither one of these are even LTE!!!), but they might choose a Revolution out of sheer aggrivation!  So, get your head out of your ass Moto and let us know, like YESTERDAY!

I’m fed up with this crap from motorola! I’m thinking about the gs2 now unless it doesn’t have 4g, in which case I will have to wait out motorola again in hopes of the dinara coming sometime during the holidays. It is to the point now where the bionic will be outdated as soon as it hits the shelves.

    • ShockaZulu

      07/25/2011 at 2:18 pm

SURELY they won’t release anything like that until late next year at least!  If they do, then they will lose my business.  I might as well go with Apple if that’s going to be Moto’s stragegy.

Less than 2 weeks away and Motorola’s own website isn’t updated to reflect the new Bionic specs and info. I wouldn’t expect August 4th to be significant.

I worked for Wal-Mart in their Connection Wireless Center, and there were many times that we would not receive some phone on their expected release date. For example, we received the Samsung Droid Charge when it was released as expected, but a few weeks later we received the HTC Thunderbolt. The Thunderbolt was released in March and Droid Charge in early May.  So, The Droid Bionic may be released on the 4th of August in Verizon store and on some websites, but may not reach Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and Costo until September….

Its pretty clear at this point the Bionic is going to be a lemon with all kinds of problems. And to think I could of upgraded months ago and I suffered this wait needlessly. From now on every chance I get I will be throwing Motorola & Verizon under the bus. They just plain suck. Good work Adam! I finally can make an informed decision on a new smartphone. I just wish Verizon and Motorola had more consideration for there once loyal customers.

I’m not losing hope yet for the simple fact that september is no longer summer and right now thats the official word from vzw and moto, a summer release. Of course this could have changed, but I’m hoping against hope that it hasn’t or ill be hoping for the Sg2.

I haven’t seen one Android phone come from Moto without bugs. From the OG Droid, to the Droid X and every firmware update in between. Why would the Bionic be any different? The HTC phones seem higher end vs. Moto and the newer version of Sense is pretty nice…I guess.

The fact that it says the phone has been pushed back tells me something revolving around the Bionic is off schedule as August 4th was the date.   It may or may not be a problem with the phone, it may be that supply channels are slow or manufacturing is slower than expected.  Who knows.

If Motorola and Verizon were smart, they would come out tomorrow and make a statement about the Bionic and its delivery date.  Otherwise, if people think it is September, they will lose a lot of potential customers and piss off their own customer base who are looking to get their next phone.  Glad I don’t own any stock in these two companies.

When I go to CES next year I won’t believe anything Motorola and Verizon say.  The way things are going, is Motorola going to re-brand the Dinara as the Bionic now?  LOL!!

Actually people it is the 4g LTE which is holding back the phone. Verizon has been unable to get any 4g phone using the gingerbread OS to run without issues. Once they figure out that they will release the phone. Hey Verizon here is a clue downgrade the radio and you can release the phone. U guys amaze me. Who ever said August 4th was the release date anyways??? Just because the filing papers at FCC will be finalized around that time doesnt mean anything. The problem is its all speculations. I remember Moto saying back at CES it would be a 2nd quarter release and here we are just 25 days out of the 2nd quarter from the original date they posted and its the same old type of stuff that I’ve been seeing for months. I look at it like this either wait for Bionic or just buy something else and stop acting like babies. Every phone releases with bugs and requires updates. But would you prefer a phone with 41 bugs or 12. Just my two cents. Cause that is to be expected

  26. Expect September

    07/25/2011 at 3:31 pm

Not sure why anyone would believe it to be an early August release after the Verizon sign up page for the Bionic.  I signed up and haven’t received any information regarding the phone.  To me this is a dead give away that the phone won’t be released any time in early August.  Usually a newsletter with phone specs and features comes first, then one with a release date should follow.  Wouldn’t Verizon release info regarding the phone prior to its release date?  None of the info that’s been released has come directly from Verizon.

Not true.  My Droid is literally falling apart.  I don’t even slide it open anymore because when I do, more of the plastic keys fall off….yes, fall off.  Not to mention that it’s slowed to a crawl for even the simplest of tasks.

Given what a POS the OG Droid has been for me, I’m STILL willing to give Moto another chance.  I’ve been patient.

I have a crappy old Imagio, but I flashed ERGZ simple rom and get great battery life even though I over clocked it, I really like the specs of the bionic but if it’s price is going to be
$300 with a two year contract I’ll wait even longer to see results of the bionic and see what happens with iPhone 5. I can early upgrade now with extra $20 charge or wait till November to use my $50 off. If iPhone 5 if come out next year that’s fine for me to as my contract is up in March of 2012, and I’ll still have the unlimited data. So if it is a waiting game they want to play with no official updates to keep consumers in the know, I will play too to get the best phone available with the best power consumption.

When Motorola announced comming in Summer, I knew it was going to be Septmember (and probabably late September).  I checked out the Droid Charge and fell in love with the screen.  Bought it a week after it came out (just long enough to read the reviews that the battery life was decent).

I really do hope it does get released next week. Or at very least smash these rumors. I mean for some people this is a much needed upgrade. Like me I’m still with my Droid Eris, and it’s about for fall apart both internally and externally.

I know I am stuck with my Droid Eris as well and am in need of a new phone. I know it will release when its ready but I’m running out of memory on my phone and I’m ready to upgrade. I will wait for this phone because there is nothing else that really catches my eye other than the droid 3 and I really want 4G because if I’m stuck on contract for 2 years I want something that will last until my next upgrade.

Just remember the Xoom is still all screwed up, maybe Motorola is waiting for a super packaged chipset with all the connectivity build in.

Maybe Verizion flavor of 4G is hard to compress, and they don’t want to release anything that is/was going to hurt battery performance like crazy.

    Just a thought.

I think you can get it’s cousin the Atrix on AT&T for $50 now! 4G (slower), 1GB memory, and Tegra2!  No way I’m paying $300 for something that is just a tad better than the Atrix.  I do hate AT&T though.  I might just settle with a Droid3, just have to wait and see.  Sigh.
