What Steve Jobs’ Resignation Means for the iPhone 5
In light of Steve Jobs’ resignation as CEO of Apple Inc., many of you are probably wondering about the implications it might have on the upcoming release of the next iPhone. Let me put this to you in as bluntly as I can possibly put it.
Steve Jobs’ resignation as CEO of Apple will have absolutely no impact on the next iPhone whatsoever, and here’s why. It’s pretty simple.
Everything that Apple does is carefully planned out and Jobs stepping down in favor of Tim Cook is no different. Although I can’t say for sure, I believe the timing of the announcement was done so as not to overshadow or coincide with the launch of the next iPhone, an announcement that is rumored to be taking place next month.

Steve Jobs obviously did not want this news hanging over people’s heads any closer to launch than it already is.
The only thing about the iPhone 5 that might change is who announces it on stage at Apple’s fall event. Tim Cook was present for the Verizon iPhone 4 announcement and I would expect him to announce the next iPhone and bring one amazing era to an end and usher in the start of another.
Looking ahead, there probably won’t be any drastic vision changes involving iPhone models after this next one either. After all, designer Jony Ive is still on board and Steve Jobs is expected to remain involved in Apple’s product strategy for the foreseeable future.
So, rest assured, the next iPhone’s dates, hardware and software are all set in stone. Steve Jobs made darn well sure of that before making this announcement.
