HP Like a Dog Chasing Its Own Tail in TouchPad Refund Kerfluffle

Round and round we go. Yesterday the web was a-twitter with news that HP was working to shut down what looked like a bogus refund site in Germany that promised customers refunds for TouchPads. The site was asking for customers’ bank account info, which raised more than a few eyebrows. Web denizens cried foul. HP unleashed its legal team to stop this unethical attempt to prey on unsuspecting customers caught in a bad situation.

Unfortunately, folks at HP didn’t check the memos or they simply weren’t circulated to the right people. It turns out HP actually hired the firm to process customers’ returns and refunds. So, HP found itself chasing its own tail. PreCentral has all the details.

But then, that seems par for the course as HP seems to be completely disjointed over this entire episode with the TouchPad, webOS, and its Personal Computer division. Given that we’ve got executives saying the TouchPad may make a return yet, and that HP is looking to manufacture more to fill current customer demand (or supply chain commitments depending on how you see it), it almost makes me want to laugh. But this feels more like a scratch your head and wonder at the absurdity of it all.
