Gingerbread for Droid Incredible Starts Arriving for Some Users

Just a short time ago, HTC confirmed that the Droid Incredible would be getting its upgrade to Android Gingerbread at some point during the month of September. It didn’t specify exactly when but we now know that things are definitely in motion as Phandroid has scored a photo of a Droid Incredible that has been updated with Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread.

It’s unclear if this is part of a soak test – meaning, Verizon is just testing it with a few users to make sure it works – or if this is the beginning of a massive roll out to Droid Incredible owners across the United States.

Droid Incredible with Gingerbread

Either way, it’s a sign that good things are just around the corner for Droid Incredible owners who have endured an extremely long wait to see the latest version of Android software appear on their handset.

Anyone out there seeing the update yet?

Be sure to let us know when you do.

I did notice last night that when I went to use one of my apps, it no longer worked (tried to open and just froze up). In order to fix it, I had to select the following:
        menu>settings>manage applications>”running” tab>selected the app>stop

I went back to the home screen and started the app over again from the app menu and now it works fine.  Whew! Still don’t know what all the Gingerbread hype was about though because other than a few cosmetic differences (3 to be exact), I can”t tell the difference.   :-(

When I last emailed HTC I was told, “When the update is released it will be pushed out OTA (Over The Air) and will be distributed by serial number.” I don’t know if serial numbers are lower or higher in certain areas or if pre-ordering the phone affected the serial number, but I do know that I’m anxious for my update…

I ordered my Droid Incredible the day after it was released online and received my upgrade OTA at about 3:30am today. I don’t see much of a difference at all! What was the hype all about?!?!

Mine just downloaded and a lot of my apps are missing that I have to go re download. Hope angry birds history isn’t gone!

II just got it on my phone incredible today but my wife didn’t get it on hers. Nice features for selecting and copy/paste while typing and seems faster but its only been a few hours since the update.

Just did the upgrade and lost at least a dozen apps. Went to the market and they weren’t in the my downloads either. Guess I’ll be making a trip to Verizon tomorrow to see what they could do. Thanks for the “upgrade” verizon. Total bs.

I got it today – so far I have only noticed a few minor differences – the one big difference is how voice recognition works – huge improvement!!! My wife who got her incredible on the same day as me does not have it yet, and when we tried to make it update, it was not offered to her.

I got my upgrade in my Incredible Thursday, 9/8/11. I can see some minor interface changes, but would like a list or demo of all the changes.

My fiance’s incredible gingerbread update was rolled out to her about a week ago. She has noticed an overall performance increase having experienced increasing lag. I have been waiting for mine to update but nothing yet. We purchased our phones during the same week but her’s was directly from Verizon while mine was from a Verizon “store”. I called Verizon and was actually told that I already had the mpst current software with 2.2. Lame. They should certainly provide an option for one to initiate the download manually. As it is now and has been for months, my phone is experiencing more and more latency in processing tasks. Trying to have patience….

I received my update beginning of week and since then I have not been able to receive text messages.  I can make and receive calls and I can send messages but can’t get them..I went to Verizon and they did a manufacture reset which made me lose everything but my contacts and that didn’t work.  I went the next day and was there for 45min and walked out of there with the same problem and was told that they put a work order in and would take 3-5 days.  Today I got on droid FB and several people who received the update is having the same problem.  Extremely pissed off and don’t know what to do.

The same thing happened to me so they sent me a refurbished Droid incredible. The incredible they sent me is still on 2.2. Obviously they are having major problems with this update.

Do not update. This 2.3.4 update and the HTC Droid Incredible has a fatal flaw. HTC said they know about it and are working on a fix. ETA unkmown. The update makes your phone stop syncing , no text messages, unable to update because phone thinks storage is full on both phone memory and SD card.

Verizons solution. upgrade phone. Sounds like fraud.

Has anyone had problems with their phones not making/receiving calls?!?! I tried to make a call the other night and when I touched the “favorite” that I was dialing, it rang once then hung up! When I received a call, it was the same…it rings once then hangs up. Last night, I kept getting a call from a “Private Number” over and over and over and over again and then would hang up as soon as it rang once (it would happen multiple times in a row then stop). Only way to fix it is to take out the battery for a few minutes then put it back in. It eventually would start again til I took the battery out. (this went on for about 2 hours!). It hasn’t done it today, thank Goodness, but I ‘m waiting for it to. Just like another blogger posted, I am also getting the “Low on Space” message in the task bar. My niece was a techie with Verizon until a couple months ago so I had her take a look. She showed me how to transfer all available apps to my sd card. I’ve now moved all that I can and that message came back yesterday…even though when I look up the availability, it shows I have plenty of space on my phone! WTH?!?! HTC and Verizon need to get their act together and fix this thing! …and NO, I do not want to pay for an upgrade now (even though I am up for one)! I don’t see paying $$ for a fix that’s NOT our fault. C’mon Verizon and HELP!!
(sn: whew, sorry, but that feels much better now that that is off chest…thanks for listening).
