iPhone 5 Gel Cases Begin to Appear at AT&T Stores
Earlier in the week, it was reported that AT&T inventory systems had contained listings for iPhone 5 from third-party accessories-maker Case-Mate, and now we’re beginning to see photo evidence of silicone cases, or flexible gel cases. The cases that are beginning to appear at AT&T retail stores are not made by Case-Mate, however, and are showing up without branding, suggesting that these third-party cases may be off-brand, generic after-market cases.
It’s unclear if Apple will announce an iPhone 5 with a body style that matches the latest case designs on October 4th. Recent speculations suggest that the iOS- and iPhone-maker may release an iPhone with a body styling that more closely resembles the iPhone 4 and dub the device the iPhone 4S. In that case, it’s curious to see why AT&T is already ordering third-party cases for the iPhone 5 as the carrier may be hedging its bets on what Apple intends to do to remain prepared on launch day.
If the latest iPhone 5 cases ordered by AT&T are accurate, then the next-generation iPhone will have a slim profile with a tapered design that’s been noted as ‘teardrop shaped’ as it shows tapering similar to what we’ve seen on the MacBook Air or even the Motorola Droid Bionic.
The case confirms that the mute switch has been re-located to the opposite side of the phone as the volume buttons.
The iPhone 5 is believed to be announced on 10/4 and be made available for purchase beginning October 14th by some estimations. In addition to AT&T and Verizon Wireless, Sprint is also believed to be offering the iPhone 5 for the first time this year, joining its larger two rivals.
