HP’s webOS Decision Probably Coming Down in the Next Two Weeks

Published

on

Meg Whitman in an interview with Le Figaro has said that HP will most likely be making a decision on what it will do with webOS within the next two weeks. As sad as this HP saga has been with webOS, and other aspects of the company, you have to admire Whitman for at least evaluating the webOS issue thoroughly before moving on.

Here’s a quote via AllThingsD

We should announce our decision in the next two weeks. This is not an easy decision, because we have a team of 600 people which is in limbo. We need to have another operating system.

It’s nice to see the employees at least mentioned as a factor in the decision process, even though they’ve certainly been through some crazy times since HP pulled the plug on the HP TouchPad.

What do you think HP should do with webOS?

It’s sad to say, but I really don’t see much a role for it now in the overall marketplace.  It took way too long for Palm to put it out in the first place, and then HP blew even more time before getting updated devices and its tablet out.  Now it is too late, and iOS and Android have sucked almost all the oxygen out of the smartphone/tablet market.  It is going to be a struggle between RIM and MS for third place, and that pretty much leaves WebOS with nothing left, not even table scraps.

HP at the this point would be wise to stop throwing good money after bad and just pull the plug on it.
