Published

Sonos, my favorite home music system, has just updated their software to support Android tablets, including the Kindle Fire, and Slacker Radio support.

Sonos offers several home HiFi systems like the Sonos PLAY:3 (review) and the Sonos PLAY:5, which offer great sound and allow you to bring music to any room in your house without running wires all over.

The new Sonos software, which is how you control the system, now works on Android tablets like the Kindle Fire, HTC Flyer, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab and others. You can Find the Sonos Controller for Android tablets, and phones, in the Android Market.

In addition to the already large library of compatible apps like Pandora, Spotify, Rhapsody, Mog and others, you can now play Slacker Radio on your Sonos system, bringing your music with you in whichever room you are in.

Also included in this update is the ability to opt in to Sonos Labs, which will offer beta access to new music services and features. The company hasn’t announced any new Sonos Labs partners yet, but you can sign up for the beta service today.

Additional Sonos 3.6 features include;

  • AAC+ codec support
  • More local language support for Danish and Norwegian users

You can update to Sonos 3.6 today, to enjoy these new features. Here’s how to update your various controllers.

After spending a few months using the Sonos PLAY:3 system with a Wireless Bridge, I am purchasing a system of my own. The speakers sound great and there is something magical about controlling the music in all areas of your house with your smartphone.

It helps that you just need to plug in to power to get the speakers up and running n a new location. This makes taking your favorite music services to your deck, balcony, basement, garage or spare bedroom as easy as finding a power outlet.

The Sonos PLAY:3 retails for $299 and the Wireless Bridge is $50. You can test out the system to see if you like it thanks to the 30 day money back guarantee.
