Transformer Prime Bootloader Unlock Tool Coming in February
Asus promised that it would deliver a bootloader unlock tool for its quad-core Eee Pad Transformer Prime tablet and it has announced that it will be making good on that promise come February. The confirmation comes courtesy of the company’s Twitter account so it’s pretty safe to say that we should only be, at most, a month and some change away from being able to free the tablet from its chains.
This revelation comes just a short time after the company caved to customer demands after Transformer Prime owners took to the forums to complain about the locked bootloader.
For those that don’t know, a bootloader – in a nutshell, is in place to keep you from tinkering with the software on board the device. When it’s unlocked, it allows you to fully customize your device, whether it’s a quad-core tablet or a phone, to your hearts content.
Lots of companies still lock up the bootloaders on their devices, Motorola being one of the most prominent.
Asus’ move follows a similar one by HTC where it has been providing its customers with unlock tools for their devices. Of course, it’s not necessary to unlock your device, but it’s nice to at least have the option.
As for Asus, it has not said detailed exactly how it plans to distribute the tool although we assume that it will probably do something similar to HTC in that it will offer the tool through a website.
Nice of Asus to communicate this to its customers and it’s just another reason why the company is one of, if not the best in the game, when it comes to how it treats its customers.
