Asus Transformer Ice Cream Sandwich Update Coming in March

By  |  2 Comments

As Acer had announced that its Iconia Tab A500 will be getting an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in mid-April, rival Asus has announced that the original Eee Pad Transformer slate will be getting its upgrade in March.

The Eee Pad Transformer, launched at the Consumer Electronics Show a year ago, debuted to the world Asus’s hybrid mobile/computing form factor for the Android Honeycomb slate. As a standalone product, the Eee Pad Transformer is cheaper than some of its rivals, yet offered the same high resolution display, dual-core processing, and a sleek form factor in a nice package. However, where the Eee Pad Transformer stands out is in its convertible and hybrid form factor when paired with the keyboard dock. When docked to the keyboard, the Eee Pad Transformer resembles a clamshell notebook or netbook, giving users access to additional ports, an extended battery, a trackpad, and a full-size keyboard.

According to Asus Singapore, the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update will arrive over-the-air to users in February/March.

Since the Eee Pad Transformer launched, Asus has followed up with a second-generation model known as the Transformer Prime, which has an improved design and build quality, and a sleeker appearance. When docked, the Transformer Prime resembles the design styling of Asus’s Zenbook ultrabook. The new tablet comes with a quad-core processor and NVIDIA used the Transformer Prime to debut its Tegra 3 chipset. The tablet had some setbacks at launch, however, including issues with GPS as well as a locked bootloader.
