Nokia 808 PureView Sample Photos Are Stunning

Adam Mills —  02/27/2012

Earlier today at the Mobile World Congress, Nokia announced a device called the Nokia 808 PureView, a Nokia Belle (Symbian Belle) device that is packing a whopping 41-megapixel Carl Zeiss camera. That mega-pixel count absolutely destroys anything, at least in mega-pixel count, on the market. But how do the images actually look?  Well, Nokia has given us a glimpse at what the camera on the Nokia 808 can do and the results are simply stunning.

What you are about to see is a collection of photos snapped with a camera on a smartphone in different environments in terms of lighting. They are also taken with different resolutions.

Remember, the camera on the Nokia 808 can capture widescreen 16:9 resolutions at 35-megapixel resolution as well.

The first photo here is of rock climbers taken in Cape Town, South Africa. The detail and colors are stunning and if you told me this was taken with a DSLR, you might have a decent shot at convincing me.

This photo is a little darker then the last but as you can see, the quality remains the same. Objects that are close are highly detailed and things in the background look fantastic.

Here’s how the camera will perform close-up. The detail and the richness of the colors is really on display here.

This might be my favorite out of all of them. This is clearly at sunset so it’s in a fairly dark environment and the Nokia 808 PureView still manages to capture a stunning image. You can even make out the waves on the water.

And lastly, another look at the kind of detail that the camera can provide.

Needless to say, it’s an incredible camera especially for one that’s packed into a smartphone and you can get a little bit more information on the camera in the video below:

As for the phone itself, it has a single-core 1.3 GHz CPU, the typical Nokia nHD resolution on a 4-inch display, 512 MB RAM and 16 GB of storage with a micro SDHC card slot.

It’s also pentaband which means that it will be able to run on both AT&T and T-Mobile.

Those of you that love photography who have wanted a high quality on your smartphone might want to take a closer look at the Nokia 808 PureView. And if you wanted to take a closer look at the photos, here is a GigaPan courtesy of Engadget Chinese.
