There was a rumor last week, complete with evidence, that seemed to point to a price increase across the board for Apple’s new iPad which is set to debut next week in San Francisco. However, a report today from 9to5Mac disputes that and states that Apple will price the upcoming iPad, thought to be called iPad 3 or iPad HD or iPad 2S, the same as the previous versions of the iPad.

Last week, we heard that the new iPad might see a jump in price across models. A piece of evidence suggested that the Wi-Fi models, which start at $499, would get bumped up $80 with the 16GB model supposedly checking in at $579 when it arrived.

As for the Wi-Fi + 3G models, they apparently would get bumped up $70 in price with the cheapest, the 16GB model, jumping up to $899 in price.

iPad 3 Price Will Likely Start at $499

This probably won't be happening.

It would have been interesting move on Apple’s part to raise the prices on its new tablet considering the fact that the company rarely raises the prices on its devices. The original iPad started at $499 as did the the iPad 2 when it arrived in March of last year.

Same goes for recent versions of the iPhone which have remained at a $199 starting price point.

In addition, the report states that the next iPad will retain the same sizes as the iPad 2. So that means 16GB, 32GB and 64GB options. There have been whispers about a 128GB model, especially if Apple introduces HD content and a new camera, but it appears that this won’t be the case.

Apple is currently gearing up to launch the next version of the iPad at the familiar Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Preparation for the big event is now underway in downtown San Francisco.

The event will kick off on Wednesday, March 7th at 10am PST, where Apple CEO Tim Cook will likely take the stage and announce Apple’s next tablet.

Apple’s next iPad is rumored to include a high-resolution Retina Display, a powerful processor, upgraded cameras, a similar design to the iPad 2, and 4G LTE connectivity.

The company is also rumored to have several other announcements on-hand including a new Apple TV, a revamped iTunes Store, and more.
