Developer Teases Untethered New iPad Jailbreak

Published

A short time ago, we told you that the new iPad had already been jailbroken by prolific hacker, MuscleNerd. Well, not to be outdone, i0n1c has debuted a jailbreak of his own showing off an untethered jailbreak for the new iPad and iOS 5.1. Unfortunately, there is no word on when the jailbreak will be made available to the public, it could be days or even months, but it’s nice to know that there is one in the works.

The video itself is quite lengthy, but it does show off a working untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 and the new iPad.

Untethered, for those that don’t know, means that you can jailbreak the device without having to run the jailbreak software every single time your device reboots or runs out of battery.

A tethered jailbreak requires you to run to the jailbreak every time your phone gets turned off. So, needless to say, an untethered jailbreak is certainly one that has its advantages.

As it stands, the only devices that have a jailbreak for iOS 5.1 are the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, original iPad and the third and fourth generation iPod touches. The iPad 2 and the iPhone 4S are currently without a jailbreak.

However, the gears are turning and we should see a jailbreak for those A5-powered devices, the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4S, in the not-so-distant future.

As for the new iPad untethered jailbreak, we will hopefully see it released to the public soon.

We’ll be sure to update you on the status of the jailbreak’s public release.
