Spotify for Android Getting a Much Needed Update

Published

on

Spotify for Android has not been updated since November 2011, leaving owners of Spotify Premium accounts with Android devices wondering when the company will release some much needed changes to the application. Well, it appears that the gears are in motion as the company is said to be hard at work on a major update for the Android version of the software.

According to sources of The Verge, Spotify is in the process of updating its Android application, an update that is said not to be just any old update.

Instead, it’s apparently a “major” update and hopefully one that soothes over the complaints of Spotify Premium owners.

Spotify for Android Getting a Huge Update

As it stands, the app is very unstable. I’ve tried to use it on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus and have run into the same glitches, bugs and crashes that others using an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich device have run into .

The problems aren’t just limited to Ice Cream Sandwich devices either it seems.

Spotify’s customer support forums are rife with complaints from Android users who are having all sorts of problems with the outdated app.

Unfortunately, we don’t know what this “major” update is going to fix exactly, but we’re going to assume that Spotify is aware of all of the complaining and is doing its best to improve its application.

It needs to, especially with apps like Rdio, Songza and MOG breathing down its neck.

In any event, if you’re a Spotify user, be on the look out for a major upgrade to the Android application that will hopefully put it up there with the likes of Rdio, which at the moment, in my opinion, blows Spotify’s app out of the water.

I already left Spotify for MOG…Spotify needs to allow more than one device to listen at a time.

MOG requires a FB account to sign up now. Not interested in doing that.
