Draw Something Hits Another Milestone, Windows Phone Users Still Waiting

By  |  10 Comments

OMGPop’s Draw Something, the mobile game that has taken both iOS and Android by storm, surpassed the 50 million downloads mark today just a short time after the company sold the game to mobile gaming giant Zynga for $210 million.

The game has hit the 50 million download mark just 50 days after launching. That means that the application has been downloaded roughly 1 million times a day since it launched.

In the game’s first five weeks, it was downloaded a cool 20 million times.

The paid version of the game currently sits at the top of both the iOS and Android app marketplaces putting it above popular apps like Angry Birds Space, Infinity Blade, and Cut the Rope.

Draw Something Hits Another Milestone, Windows Phone Users Still WaitingZynga, who bought the game from OMGPop, says that it believes the game is “not only the fastest-growing original mobile game of all time – 50 days to hit 50 million downloads — but one of the fastest growing web sensations that we’ve seen.”

And while that might be true, there is still one major mobile platform where the game isn’t yet available.

Microsoft’s Windows Phone.

The same goes for Rovio’s Angry Birds Space, although the developer has announced that a game for Windows Phone is indeed in the works. Zynga however, has not announced whether it will bring the Draw Something phenomenon to Microsoft’s platform.

As it stands, Zynga doesn’t yet have a presence on the Windows Phone Marketplace, and that doesn’t bode well for Draw Something.

Still, with demand seemingly through the roof (there petitions for Windows Phone on Zynga’s own website) and Windows 8 on the way later this year, Windows Phone owners can only hope that the Zynga reverses course and brings the app to the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Are you still holding out hope for Draw Something on Windows Phone or have you given up?

Why Do they not make a windows phone app ? is this because Google owns a big part of Zynga ?
I would think soo .. its just not fair how google plays dirty. there is no other reason.

Google is the worse company out there for this. Even there serches on other platforms hold preferance to negative reports that can linger top of searches for days. This idea aswell that Android is some hippy dream of openess is also a huge lie and in fact google ties you in to there services and market more than any other os. They are the sheep in wolves clothes and yet people suck it up like they are some jesus company. And as with any cult there followers will slam you in flames for saying so. reminds me of scientology. As for Draw something i would love this on windows phone or at least to work on bluestacks.

More than iPhone? I don’t think so. People just like to hate lol. MS came late to the game, spent too much time on the crappier versions of their tired old smartphone OS. (6.5 and earlier) the late comer always gets the least content. That’s true for anything, look at video game consoles.

iphone is about the same but at least they honest about it so that tips in there favour. A crappier version??? its all new bar a but of the kernal and that looks like its about to be swapped out. Late commers dont get less they just start later so its not the same thing as for consoles its normally the first that suffer look at the dreamcast or the lynx. Windows phone is the best os out there its only downside is that smaller apps still overlook it but all the big ones are there plus you have the advantage of smoother better os. I have talked about 5 ppl into buying it and they have all come back saying how great it is compared to there old androids or iphones. Windows phone will take hold and once it does and the fill in apps come it will smash everything out the water. It already has android beat on games.

I have given up on windows phone. The moment I can upgrade I am getting an iPhone. Its just getting ridiculous -_- I cant buy songs on my phone because apparently Zune and at&t cant connect there billing information. All the apps are garbage or knockoffs because at first there was no angry birds but chicks n vixens. It wasn’t until MUCH later windows phone got angry birds. I’ve given up of ever hoping to get words with friends (im stuck with spell it) sadly to say windows phone always seems to be lagging behind android and iPhone.

I completely agree with Toronto, I’ve got a lumia 900 and would never change it for another platform. My better half has an iPhone and my lumia smokes it in comparison of speed an ease of use. user en my 6 year old prefers the lumia.

Personally I think as soon as windows 8 is out and people start buying pcs with it built in, the app situation will completely change for Microsoft. The majority of people own a windows pc so as soon as apps are available for it it makes common sense to make it one of the primary targets. And if Microsoft have learnt anything from what apple have done, they make it easy to make both tablet and mobile versions of software.
