AT&T Unveils New Pay-As-You-Go Data Packages

Published

on

In addition to announcing the availability of the HTC One X, it’s latest flagship Android phone, AT&T has announced new GoPhone data packages that the carrier will be rolling out starting April 22nd.

GoPhone data packages are, in short, pay-as-you-go plans. They appeal to customers who don’t need the latest and greatest smartphone or better yet, don’t want to be tied down to a contract with the carrier.

With this latest move, AT&T has actually made these plans more attractive as the carrier has doubled up the data on the plans without raising the price.

AT&T Unveils New Pay-As-You-Go Plans

Here’s how it breaks down:

  • 1 GB is $25
  • 200 MB is $15
  • 50 MB is $5

Customers that are on AT&T’s $50 Unlimited Talk & Text or the $25 unlimited text with 250 minutes plan will be able to take advantage of these.

Clearly, these plans are not aimed at those that want to consume a lot of data. However, for those that rarely use their phone for things like web surfing or watching video content, these are certainly options to look at.

The carrier has said that these will roll out in four days but it appears that some users have already been able see the new data plans on AT&T’s website, but it’s unclear right now whether they can be bought.

For those that are interested, it’s probably safest to just wait until April 22nd, four days from now, when AT&T will officially start offering them.

For more information about these GoPhone pay-as-you-go plans, be sure to visit AT&T’s official website.

AT&T – scammers. I had 400mb prepaid left on my account  and they removed them today.

I also lost ~450MB when they switched plans. Why? Because now data plans are only available if you have at least the $25/mo plan. While this is cheap for most people, I suspect that Igor and Guest are like me — very frugal users who rarely text and who don’t even need 250 minutes a month. I’m on the 10c/min plan. Yup, pay per minute. I’m not a chatterbox. But, I loved the fact that I could check email, Facebook, and sometimes the web from my smartphone, for free if there was wifi around, and very cheaply with AT&T’s pay-as-you-go data plan. Now I would have to triple my monthly expenditure to get back in the game. I’ll just stick with free wifi for now and see how that works for me.

Just called AT&T customer service, had to demand a supervisor from the CSR in India, who transferred me to USA customer support.

I was on 10cents a minute plan, $5/mo data (with Smartphone) had 500MB that I couldn’t roll over unless I went to the $25/month plan. I yelled like crazy and was able to get an account credit of $30 for the 500MB I’ll be loosing tomorrow.

I had unused 160 MB data left and it was wiped out today. So I called AT&T and spoke Supervisor’s Supervisor – a chap named Raymond – and I demanded credit for used data. Basically I got $80 for 160MB of unused data. $5 per month for 10MB feature package translated into $80 worth of credit.

I said if I get robbed of my money then I will contact FCC and write letters to the newspapers in my area. That got their attention.

The author of the article doesn’t understand what “Pay As You Go” means. The monthly/unlimited plans for which the data packages are available only now are NOT “Pay As You Go”.

I had to call several times but finally got a partial refund for all the data I lost in all my GoPhone “Pas As You GO” accounts. Many people just don’t even try and leave at&t to take the data they pay for in advance away without any compensation from at&t.

The title should read “AT&T eliminates Pay-As-You-Go Data Service”.

I used to pay about $10 a month to get 10MB of data and about 60 minutes of voice. Now I have to pay $30 a month. it is a completely sour deal.

If you are a heavy user, then it is a better deal. But for me, this is like buying 1 gallon of coffee when I only need one cup.

I lost almost 600mb of data that I was adding 10MB a month rollover data too. There needs to be a huge class action lawsuit against AT&T for billing fraud and breach of contract. I cannot use my smartphone any more with data at all on pay as you go simple rate, not even able to buy per use data or per KB other than wifi. This is outrageous.

This looks to be a good solution and pushback to AT&T plus it saves money if you have both a smartphone, tablet and computer and don’t need a full data plan on any of them, ideal for occassional use and keep the mifi unit in the car.

A $106 investment … and only $4.99 a month plus 3.9 cents per MB is a bargain and much cheaper than AT&T’s $25 or $50 add-on data plan on top of having to pay for their $25 monthly plan:

IF your under the pay as you go service understand that its your responsibility to monitor your usage and the airtime expiration date and feature expiration date. Thats the reason why we are informed by att representative everytime we call them. I have a pay as you go service also and had not encountered any problem with my unused minutes. Please take time to read the terms and conditions.

The issue we are upset and talking about has nothing to do with unused minutes or espiration date. We are concerned with we bought Smartphones in reliance of data by pay per use or in prepaid bundles such as 10 GB or 500 GB being available and rolling over. AT&T egregiously and abruptly cancelled that and required a data plan and a qualifying voice plan to be able to use data on smartphones. The people that were using smartphones and had purchased data bundles and were adding to it and rolling over every month by purchasing a minimum amount should have been grandfathered and allowed to continue with that. AT&T will eventually be sued over this and very likely lose in a class action.

In the meantime the mobile MiFi that just came out from Wal-Mart is a private-label version of TruConnect but there is no monthtly fee so it’s an even better deal and will save you another $60 per year and the data never expires as long as you use it once a year …

$119 for the device + shipping (free ship-to-store), then purchase a data plan, best one is $25 for 500 MB, good forever if you use it once a year. No monthly charge or declination fee.

ATT scams like crazy. They tried to charge me 600 for 60min of local long distance. Several other times they tried to charge me 100 more than I actually owed. When I finally got disgusted after 12 years and shut down my landline, they kept billing for 3 months, completeky ignored the 100 deposit I had,and turned me over to collections ,when in reality they owed me about 80. That’s just a little of what they tried to pull.
