Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus Ice Cream Sandwich Update Roll Out Begins

Adam Mills —  07/10/2012

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus Ice Cream Sandwich update has begun to roll out.

According to SamMobile, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus ICS update has begun to roll out to tablet owners. The update is currently available to owners in Austria through Samsung Kies and the software should become available to other Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus owners in other regions soon.

The roll out is the second Android 4.0 roll out to a Galaxy Tab tablet. The first Galaxy Tab to receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update was the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7.

The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus update brings the device up to Google’s latest version of Ice Cream Sandwich, Android 4.0.4.

It’s unclear if this means that the T-Mobile version of the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus will get the Ice Cream Sandwich update soon, but this is a sign that things are at least in motion.

The update to Ice Cream Sandwich will bring the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus new ICS features including the new user interface, new Browser, Face Unlock and a whole lot more.

We also expect the update to bring enhancements and bug fixes as well which should make the overall experience on the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus a much better one.

This leaves the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 as the two Samsung tablets that have yet to receive the Android 4.0 update.

We have heard that the roll outs might start this month so owners should definitely be on the look out in the days ahead.

  1. Soon is a very relative term. Still don’t know it will happen. According to people who have the Galaxy Tab 7.7 WiFi, only the 3G models have been upgraded, leaving the WiFI only users in the lurch. And only the 3 G users covered by the Austria region.

A look at the firmware on http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ seems to confirm that.

So if last weeks upgrade of the 7.7 hasn’t happened yet for users outside the 3G users the Austria region, who knows when the WiFi users for the 7.0 plus will get upgraded at this point.

@mariana I do not want to buy a new tablet. I would like Samsung to comply with user expectations. This is unacceptible.
