Samsung Galaxy S III Jelly Bean Update Rolling Out in August?

Published

on

A new rumor suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S III Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update will be rolling out on August 29th, the same day that Samsung is slated to show off the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for the first time.

According to GSMArena, a tipster has informed them that the Galaxy S III Jelly Bean update, which we heard was closer than some expect, will start to roll out on August 29th.

We have also previously heard that the update would be out sometime in Q3, a window that includes July, August, and September. So, August 29th is as good of a day as any for the update to roll out.

That being said, Samsung has yet to announce anything which leaves the release date wide open, something that should make Galaxy S III owners temper their expectations.

The Galaxy S III Jelly Bean update release date has been pegged for August 29th.

Previously, we had heard that a Samsung Galaxy S III Jelly Bean update was in the works and that the device had passed in testing with flying colors at Samsung. After that testing, Samsung apparently started testing a public version of the software.

Of course, it’s possible that the update could hit a snag and not get released on August 29th. Tentative dates are thrown around all the time and we could very well see a delay into September or later.

We have heard that the Verizon Galaxy S III would get its Android 4.1 Jelly Bean sooner rather than later so hopefully, the U.S. devices are a part of this August 29th roll out, if it’s the real deal.

Soon in carrier speak could mean months though as American carriers are notoriously slow for rolling out major Android upgrades to their devices.

That being said, because the Galaxy S III is so high-profile, we expect it to be amongst the first to get the new software from Google.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is a big improvement over its predecessor, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Jelly Bean will be bringing a bunch of new features to Galaxy S III owners including Google Now, better Voice Search, offline Voice dictation, a smoother UI, new Notifications options, and more.
