HTC ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich Update Comes Down to the Wire

Published

on

Never one to let a Major Android update go by without a little suspense, it looks like HTC is going to be coming down to the wire with the HTC ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich update.

As of right now, HTC sits less than four days from the promised roll out window for the HTC ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich update. And thus far, there are no signs that the company and Verizon will be able to adhere to the software’s roll out window.

Sure, we’ve seen a leaked ROM and yes, owners have received a promise from HTC that it will be out by the end of August, as promised, but thus far, HTC and Verizon have not said a word and we haven’t seen the update approved by Verizon, something that generally happens shortly before the roll out.

The HTC ThunderBolt ICS release date has come down to the wire.

So, as we’ve said before, it’s possible that HTC and Verizon will miss the August roll out date for the ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich update. And we’re also hearing that HTC still has some work to do on the update lest it roll out a piece of software that is extremely sluggish.

Earlier this month, we heard from several HTC ThunderBolt owners who were tired of waiting for Ice Cream Sandwich and decided to install the Android 4.0 ICS ROM that leaked to the surface.

Initially, while they were elated to install and run the new software on their aging device, they soon began to notice a lot of sluggishness as far as the UI is concerned.

Several of those owners believe that it’s HTC Sense 3.6, the new version of Sense that’s coming with Android ICS, that is to blame for the lag. And at this point we have no reason not to believe them.

Of course, while we wish that HTC and Verizon would wipe HTC Sense from the ThunderBolt in an effort to make a smooth vanilla experience, that isn’t likely to happen. So, instead, we’re hoping that HTC and Verizon can make some improvements to the software before its released.

Sadly, there are only hours left in the roll out window so if HTC does choose to do that, it could have to delay the update making this another tricky Android situation to add to the long line of them.

We’ll be on the lookout for any other information in regards to the update.

HTC did us a favor by “leaking” their rom out to the public and hence giving the devs the ability to play with it to their will which of course benefits the consumers. That’s about as best they could do, it’s pretty pointless and stupid to even ponder when an official release is coming. I’d wager that by the time ICS comes out officially on Verizon, your free upgrade will already be available (3 more months).

So seriously, no point to ponder when this is going to happen anymore…

I wonder if the (leak) was planned in a attempt to hold on to customers. Two months and later HTC. I will conduct a study and see if the mighty t bolt can hold up to a 270 rifle.

I have given up on HTC honestly. I dont think they will deliver on their promise to get ICS out by August 31. Sad, probably won’t consider another HTC phone in the future.

I think HTC and Verizon are watching these forums and blogs and laughing their asses off and they observe us , the fools who wait for an update that will never happen. Then they will laugh a second time as we run out, like buffalo over a cliff, to buy a new phone and repeat the same idiotic process all over again

I Believe the only reason HTC promised an update was so we wouldnt go and buy the samsung galaxy s3, or any other phone out now …. They’re gonna hold us off til their HTC phablet is out in a few weeks…. And yes that too is getting the hype the thunderbolt had prior to release…. That will be the alternative for ATT’s galaxy note 2 or the almighty IPhone 5….

After the severe disappointment with my thunderbolt and the lack of timely updates by both the manufacturer and Verizon after multiple promises both in store and from their websites I’m fairly certain I’ll wait for the windows 8 phone and take my chances there

The games these corporations play to keep us all hooked to the grid. JeFro is on point. No matter how we respond, they win. Unless, we get out of the big phones and go with no contract. I’m believing it’s probably time to have an “HTC Spring!” where the protests are effective enough to hurt. I use a smartphone as much as any OCD person like me I know. However, I believe there is a way to beat this habit. YOU JUST HAVE TO GET PISSEDOFF ENOUGH TO MAKE IT HAPPEN! Have a good day HTC. I sure will with my Thunderbolt under my 350Z tires as I do burnouts. See it on YOUTUBE!

Having tried the leaked ROM, it was definitely sluggish. I’d rather they wait than release an awful update that sinks the phone (without an easy way to rollback to Gingerbread). I’ve had my TB for 9 months, and I’ve honestly been pretty pleased with it. I can see early adopters being angry about how it was then, but that’s kind of how first releases work. I don’t want them to release an update if it doesn’t run well at all. If it comes down to not being feasible, I’d rather have GB improvements than a full (sluggish) ICS update.

They better stick to their promise! Otherwise I’m gonna have Apple ban their products!

Just give us Sense 3.6… I could care less about ICS because HTC already whittled it down to crap for their legacy handsets. I just want that damn silver ring to unlock my phone, rather than a big black bar to pull down.

I’m giving up on HTC and Android. I’ll be ordering the new iPhone next month. At least their OS works…and Apple sticks to the dates when they release a new version of iOS.

I’d rather that HTC release anything as opposed to nothing. Whatever they release will allow the modding community to fix ICS issues and improve it.

Long time HTC Devotee here having had HTC phones since the Windows Mobile 6, HTC 8125. The unbelievably long wait to get gingerbread was bad enough and now this wait to get ICS has done me in. All the time and development that HTC has is geared towards new sales, not realizing, and probably not caring, that their client base is eroding. I have lost my faith in HTC. No more HTC phones. When my contract is up, its Samsung Galaxy S III.

Everywhere I go, its the same thing. Everyone with a thunderbolt is swearing off htc for life. I personally cant wait to throw my tbolt off a wall. I am praying and hoping by some miracle of god, that Verizon gets the note2. Goodbye htc, its no wonder the taiwanese government is having to bail you out. You suck.
