Motorola Says ‘Q3′ for Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich Update

Last week, we told you that a Motorola seemed to confirm the Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich update for September. Well, it now appears that the company is singing that tune officially as the company is now telling Droid Bionic owners that the update will indeed be rolling out in Q3.

On Facebook, the company is publicly telling owners that the Droid Bionic that the update will be rolling out in the third quarter of this year which means September is the likely month for the Droid Bionic’s Ice Cream Sandwich roll out.

This of course differs from Motorola’s official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade page which listed the Droid Bionic’s Ice Cream Sandwich update as having an “early Q3″ roll out, something that the company has yet to change.

Early Q3 has come and gone with the arrival of September.

Motorola is now saying Q3 for Droid Bionic ICS.

However, the company remains mum about any sort of specifics, even as that deadline has seemingly come and gone without the arrival of Android 4.0 for the aging Droid Bionic.

This comes shortly after we told you that at least one Motorola rep acknowledged that the Droid Bionic ICS update was still in its development phase and that it would be rolling out to owners, after testing, at some point in September.

That rep did not specify a specific date for the roll out either which again means that Droid Bionic owners might have to brave the entire month of September.

Motorola rolled out the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX ICS updates on the last day of the release window and it’s possible that the Droid Bionic’s ICS update may not roll out until the end of its new release window as well.

It’s our hope that that doesn’t happen and the Droid Bionic update is graced with Ice Cream Sandwich sometime in the early part of the month but at this point, the release date is up in the air.

The good news?

It appears that the update is still coming.

    I already have a Windows 8 phone on order to replace my Bionic. After testing one, that is the clear choice for me.

    the only thing verizon and motorola can do to save customer base. possibly, is to give the bionic owners a chance to trade their bionic for a razr maxx. that alone might save some customers. i have very very mixed feelings about it. i dont know if i will stay with motorola.and verizon, after at least 15 years of loyalty. i feel very let down with all the time frame lies and continuances.motorola, alone have created a phone just weeks after the bionic was introduced,that made the bionic outdated.again the customer bites the big one.the galaxie s3 looks great.

      They should at the least give us the option to upgrade!!!!!! Whats it gonna hurt them they’ll get us locked in for 2 more years and we get a phone we’re happy with! Lets face it no matter how good your bionic maybe working it sucks having a device that was wrote off by both companys 3 weeks after its launch!!!!!

      I will never buy Motorola again. No way…no how. EVER. Not after they did me dirty by releasing the Razr a mere month after i spent $300 on a VERY buggy Bionic. Unfortunately, I’m stuck with Verizon as I live in BFE, but I’m not thrilled that they cap our bandwidth usage, even though they aren’t the only major carrier to do so. The better part of 2012 is over. The world is changing. Update your infrastructure to support the increased data usage, that will only INCREASE. We deserve unlimited bandwidth. Limiting it kills the potential use of many features on smartphones.

    Choices are becoming more evident…now iphone 5..not that i jumping OS’s…but no word from carriers and manufacturers..jus says no one in the wheel house as the ship drifts.

    Stop crying about this update. Like omg my life is over because ics is not here yet. Yes im excited for the update but if we have to wait for a perfect version, bug less update then i can wait

    i agree totally. ive been looking around for when my contract is up. just be straight with us and honor a trade in to the razr would definetly help save the majority of their consumer base. but we all know that would never happen. they would rather lose big then lose little!!!!!!!!!!

    Like others have said…. my Bionic works just fine on gingerbread…thats not the point. The fact that this phone was made for ics, and quickly became obsolete only WEEKS after it launched is total bs. Moto and VZ screwed us all over. There is no way they didnt know that the bionic would be scrapped in such short notice. Bait and switch tactics.

    The update for the droid bionic better have the bugs worked out from the razr update. ie put back the 3G only option!

    In the midst of this I am still shocked by the naysayers with helpful hints like “Stop whining!” “Grow up, these awesome and trustworthy companies are doing EVERYTHING in their power to give you the best, quickest update in the world, and taking their bloody sweet time doing it. They’re working so hard, they can’t even bother with the most basic of press releases or website schedule updates!”
    IT IS NOT ABOUT WHINING FOR AN UPDATE!! IT’S THE LIES AND VACUUM OF INFORMATION FROM MOTO AND V-WIRELESS!!!!!!
    And I am REALLY tired of people trying to claim that Motorola is working so hard on the update to make it perfect and that’s somehow “Professional” on their part. If you tell your boss that you will have a product ready for market in “Early Q3″, and September comes along and you don’t deliver, is that professional? If you realize you’re going to miss the deadline that YOU set, and don’t communicate in any manner, is that professional? I think we all know the answer. Motorola and Verizon’s commitment to the Bionic and Bionic owners does not exist. If they were “professional” and gave a damn about the phone or it’s owners, it would have ICS BEFORE the phone released AFTER the Bionic. Why the Razr rated an update first is beyond my comprehension.

    Back to the topic at hand: If Motorola had decided to not provide an ICS update for Bionic it would be a completely different matter. I would attempt to root and install the update. But Motorola commited to an update that won’t void my warranty, and therefore I want it delivered as THEY promised!!

    that’s because they probably don’t have one. It’s so sad. Motorola is trying to bribe its customers by giving them$100 credit if they trade in a phone that was released in 2011 that won’t get the JB update. After the ics I’m not even going to think about jb cuz they’ll screw us over again

    People, they are corporations legally bound to be profitable for their stock holders… When we bought our Bionics no ICS update was implied or promissed. Be happy that the phone is on the list and that you will have a supped up Bionic by months end. If anything it will buy you time to wait for the latest greatest phone that will be replaced in six months in which you will be able to complain about, or at very least start complaining about not having Jellybean. Relax, take your time, the urgency is only in your mind.

      @Peter. When we, the consumers, purchased this 4G phone, we were guaranteed to receive 4G LTE service. For over 3 months now I have not received that guarantee, and neither Verizon nor Motorola has provided any remedy or refunds for the lack of service.

    October 2 & I’m still waiting for ics on my bionic. Very frustrating.

    Also, regarding the 4g issue – mine has always been terrible, despite living in a million person metropolitan area. I turned it off and have been using 3g for months now and -voila- the phone works great again. Sad.

      I honestly don’t know wtf you people are talking about. I live in Chicago and have found Verizon service with the Droid Bionic to be fkin amazing. Buncha whiners that are so caught up with having the latest and greatest even though the differences from product to product are minimal, incremental upgrades.
