The LG Nexus 4, which was previously rumored for launch in October, now has a rumored launch date of October 29th.
According to French newspaper Le Figaro, by way of Android Central, LG and Google will announce the new LG Nexus 4 (the publication users that name) on October 29th and says that the phone will hit French-based carrier SFR at some point in December. A date for the carrier-launch was not given.
The publication also suggests that the device may be released on the very same day, October 29th. Google did this with the HTC Nexus One but since then, it has released its Nexus smartphones after detailing them on stage.
It could be that the phone goes up for pre-order through Google’s Play Store that day but it also remains possible that Google will just release the phone for purchase that day as well.
October 29th is the same day that the All Things D: Dive Into Mobile conference is set to take place, an event where Andy Rubin is scheduled to be a speaker. Rubin, who is Google’s Android chief, showed off the Motorola Xoom and Android 3.0 on the same stage in 2010 which means that the event could be the launching pad for the new Nexus this year.
The publication, while suggesting it will hit SFR later this year, did not mention whether or not it will hit carriers in the U.S. The last Nexus smartphone became available on both Sprint and Verizon with 4G LTE speeds. Google also sold the Galaxy Nexus through its Google Play Store for cheap though that model was both unlocked and ran on HSPA+ networks through AT&T and T-Mobile.
In any event, October 29th is now looking like a solid date to circle on the calendar in terms of the new Nexus 4’s release and fortunately, that announcement will likely just provide clarity on carriers, release dates and pricing rather than actual specifications.
That’s because the LG Nexus 4 has surfaced extensively over the past few days in both leaked specifications and photos. One person, who is in possession of a prototype, claims that the device will feature a large HD display, speedy quad-core processor, 8MP rear camera, Jelly Bean, 8GB of storage space and no MicroSD card slot.
