Just a few days before the release of the AT&T Nokia Lumia 920, the off-contract price of the Windows Phone 8 smartphone has been revealed and as expected, the price is extremely competitive.
According to AT&T’s website, courtesy of Engadget, the Nokia Lumia 920 is carrying to an off-contract price tag of $450, an extremely low price for a high-end smartphone without a contract. By comparison, the unlocked iPhone 5 will cost $649 when it arrives later on this year. The off-contract Galaxy S III costs $549 for the lowest-end model which makes the Lumia 920 an extremely attractive option for those looking to snag a phone off-contract.
It’s unclear at this point whether the off-contract Lumia 920 models will ship out with their on-contract counterparts or if AT&T will be waiting to fulfill on-contract orders before it sends these out to those who pre-order. It could be that these might arrive starting on November 9th, the Lumia 920 release date on AT&T, or possibly a little bit afterwards. Whatever the case may be, at this price, the Lumia 920 becomes an extremely attractive option on AT&T’s 4G LTE network.
That’s not to say that the price of the on-contract Lumia 920 is shabby either. The on-contract pricing of the Lumia 920 was revealed to be $99 earlier this week, a price that mirrors the pricing of the original AT&T Lumia, the Lumia 900. That price should make it extremely competitive in a field dominated by $199 on-contract prices.
Also helping is the fact that the Lumia 920 runs Microsoft’s latest piece of software, Windows Phone 8, an operating system that Microsoft expects to compete with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and iOS 6.
The Lumia 920 also features some high-end hardware including a a 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ ClearBlack display with a 1280×768 resolution, 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, NFC, 16GB of storage space, and a 2000 mAh battery.
It also possesses an 8MP PureView camera that arguably is the best smartphone camera for taking photos in low-light. The Lumia 920 also, of course, runs on AT&T’s 4G LTE network which means that it can pull down extremely fast data speeds where service is available.
