According to a report from Focus Taiwan, courtesy of Android and Me, HTC is evidently working on its next flagship smartphone which is currently dubbed the HTC M7. The device, which would likely replace the HTC One X as HTC’s high-end Android smartphone, is firmly in the shadows at the moment though the report suggests that it will be launching in March.

HTC One X

The HTC M7 could replace the HTC One X.

If true, that likely means that an announcement will be coming at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona during the month of February. Last year, HTC used the event to announce its new HTC One series of smartphones which included the HTC One X, HTC One S and the HTC One V. The HTC One X has since been replaced by the higher-end, HTC One X+.

Should HTC announce the HTC M7 at MWC 2013 and get the device out in March, it would likely beat Samsung to the punch as the Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung’s rumored successor to the Galaxy S3, isn’t rumored to be coming until April with a release slated for mid-year.

While not much is known about the HTC M7, given HTC’s current lineup and the state of the Android market, we can make some predictions. Customers should expect the device to sport a quad-core processor, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, a large display with 1080p resolution – same as the Droid DNA for Verizon, and fantastic cameras. The HTC One X sported one of the best rear cameras on the Android market.

The Galaxy S4 is rumored for an April launch.

Consumers should also expect the device to launch in the U.S. on 4G LTE networks. AT&T is a likely candidate given that it carried the HTC One X and it could be that the HTC M7 is an exclusive.

As for the Samsung Galaxy S4, it’s rumored to have a 4.99 AMOLED 1080p display, 13MP camera, and Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, Google’s next Android operating system that may be announced in May.
